美 여성, 손 소독제 바른 채 촛불 켰다가 ‘전신 중화상’
미국 텍사스주에서 한 여성이 손 소독제를 바른 직후 촛불을 켜다 폭발이 일어나 온몸에 중화상을 입었다.
4일(현지시간) 미국 CBS방송에 따르면 텍사스주 라운드록에 거주하는 케이트 와이즈는 이 사고로 인해 얼굴과 온몸에 3도 화상을 입었다.
와이즈는 지난달 30일 집에서 손 세정제를 바른 직후 촛불을 켰고, 그 순간 작은 불꽃이 손으로 옮겨붙었다.

와이즈는 인터뷰에서 “불이 손 소독제 용기에 닿으면서 폭발이 일어났다”며 “삽시간에 불길이 얼굴로 퍼졌고, 곧이어 몸 전체가 불길에 휩싸였다”고 말했다.
라운드록 소방당국은 손 소독제 용기가 폭발한 정확한 원인이 무엇인지에 대한 조사에 나섰다.
한 소방서 직원은 “손 소독제는 알코올이 최소한 62% 이상 함유된 인화성 물질이다”며 사용 시 각별한 주의를 촉구했다.

A Texas mom suffered severe burns in a rare incident involving hand sanitizer and an open flame, according to local media reports.
The local Round Rock Fire Department is investigating the cause of the fire. Spokesperson Will Hampton told PEOPLE that Kate Wise was transported to a nearby Austin hospital with burns on 18% of her body. Local media reported that Wise was lighting a candle near the hand sanitizer.
"[The hand sanitizer] just lit my hand with fire," Wise told KHOU-TV.
"It obviously went all over my face. And, in like a matter of five seconds, my whole body was just consumed in flames."
Hampton and safety experts stress fire safety when using hand sanitizer.
“Hand sanitizer is flammable,” said Hampton. “This stuff is at least 62 percent alcohol, so folks need to be careful.”
