미국 농산물 유통 전문기업 '지마라'와 협력

    자율 비행기술 개발 스타트업 ‘릴라이어블 로보틱스(Reliable Robotics)’가 미국 농산물 대형 유통업체인 ‘지마라(Giumarra)’와 제휴해 농산물의 무인항공기 배송을 위한 테스트 프로그램을 공동으로 런칭한다고 ‘더로봇리포트’가 보도했다.

Reliable Robotics Corp. and Giumarra Cos. this week announced the joint launch of an automated flight test program to help solve supply chain and delivery challenges within the fresh produce industry. In its successful inaugural flight on Aug. 7, the program delivered tree-ripened peaches from a farm to grocery stores within 24 hours of harvest — a feat yet to be available at scale for U.S. growers. The flight test served as a crucial step in reducing time and touch points between farms and consumers, said the companies. The Giumarra Companies was founded in 1922 and is an international network of fresh produce growers, distributors, and marketers. Products packed under the company’s Nature’s Partner label must meet strict standards for food safety, quality control, and flavor. “To call this program groundbreaking is an understatement. 릴라이어블 로보틱스는 지난 8월 7일 24시간내 재배한 배를 농장에서 지역의 식료품점까지 배송하는 비행 테스트를 성공적으로 완료했다. 릴라이어블 로보틱스 측은 농장과 소비자간에 유통 접점을 줄이고 유통 시간을 줄이는 데 중요한 발걸음을 내디뎠다고 밝혔다.

이번에 릴라이언스 로보틱스와 제휴한 지마라는 지난 1922년 설립된 농산물 전문 유통기업으로 재배농가, 유통업체, 농산물시장 등을 연결할 수 있는 국제적인 네트워크를 보유하고 있다.

지마라의 팀 릴리 회장은 “이번 자율항공기를 활용한 배송은 신선식품 및 농산물 업계의 미래를 바꾸는 데 중요한 디딤돌이 될 것”이라며 신선한 농산물을 구입하기 힘든 ‘식품 사막’을 포함해 미국 전역에 빠르고 신선하게 농산물을 배송하는 데 기여할 것이라고 했다.

캘리포니아주 마운틴뷰에 위치한 릴라이어블 로보틱스는 스페이스 X와 테슬라 출신의 인력들이 설립했으며, 올해 8월 3350만 달러의 투자 자금을 유치했다. 지난 2019년 '세스나 172 스카이호크' 항공기에 완전 자율비행 기능을 탑재해 조종사 없이 비행하는 데 성공한 바 있다. 또 대형 '세스나 208 캐러번' 항공기를 이용해 자동 착륙 과정을 시연하기도 했다.

농산물의 무인 배송이 상용화되면 농장주들과 공급업체들은 농산물의 훼손없이 효과적으로 배송할 수 있게 된다. 산지에서 멀리 떨어진 지역 식료품점들은 소비자들에게 산지의 상품을 빠른 시간에 팔 수 있다. 이런 유통시스템이 선순환 과정을 거치면 농장주들은 소비자들의 취향에 맞춰 차별화된 풍미와 식감을 갖고 있는 농산품을 맞춤형으로 공급할 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.
