Shocking video captured the moment that a group of rafters plunged over a 30ft waterfall after apparently ignoring warning signs to turn around.

The rafters at Ohiopyle State Park in Pennsylvania had rented a raft and took an unguided white water boating trip on the Middle Youghiogheny River.

The rafters plummeted 30 feet over the falls into raging rapids

While navigating the river, the group took a wrong turn that set them on a dangerous course. They passed three warning signs urging boaters to turn back, with one sign stating 'waterfall ahead'.

The moment the rafters plummeted over the falls was captured on video by bystander Cody Veronie, who posted the video to his Facebook.

The incident happened at around 4.30pm, and emergency crews were able to retrieve the group from the river and get them to safety on land in only 10 minutes.

'We wanted to get them before the next rapid, because it's not too far,' Park Operations Manager Kenneth Bisbee said.

This section of the river is typically an easy excursion that takes around five hours to complete.

But because of abnormally high water levels, the water was moving much faster and the group finished in around three hours.

The Youghiogheny River is usually 2ft deep, but on July 13 it was a startling 5ft.

Bisbee told Daily Mail.com: 'They were actually finished with their trip, but I think they kept going because the water was so high.'

Luckily, all six rafters escaped with minor injuries.

Bisbee told ABC News, 'All six of them had their life jackets on so when they went over the falls that was probably the thing that saved them and that's why they're with us today.'
