자신도 모르게 쌍둥이 임신?

 

   고고학자들이 1천500여 년 전 출산으로 숨진 미이라 상태의 10대 엄마를 재조사한 결과 충격적인 사실을 밝혀냈다.

 

 

조지워싱턴대 연구팀은 시신을 컴퓨터 단층촬영(CT) 촬영한 결과 한 아기의 머리가 산도에 박혀 있고 또 다른 태아가 흉강에 끼어 있는 것을 발견했다

 

 

17세가 채 되지 않은 이 여성은 목이 잘린 아기와 함께 잠들어 있었고, 이로 인해 전문가들은 그녀가 자신도 모르게 쌍둥이를 임신한 것으로 보고 있다.

연구팀은 큰 쌍둥이는 외상성 태아 참수로 목이 터져 사망한 반면 작은 쌍둥이는 자궁에서 떨어져 갈비뼈 부위로 이동한 것으로 추정하고 있다.

 

 

이 여성의 유해는 1908년 서부 사막에 위치한 이집트 하르가 오아시스의 엘 바가와트 묘지에서 발굴됐다.

카르가 오아시스는 약 5만 년 전에 처음 정착해 고대 이집트의 경제와 군사에 중요한 역할을 했다.

 

이 여성은 사망 당시 14~17세로 추정되며 누더기로 팔과 발이 묶인 채 매장됐다.

그녀는 또한 몸을 완전히 건조하게 만드는 건조성을 가진 '대량의 소금'으로 층층이 쌓였다.

 

연구진은 1908년 현장 기록을 작업 중 사용했는데, 이 기록은 이전 고고학자들이 시신을 풀고 팔을 제거한 뒤 대퇴골을 침윤시키고 복부를 절개한 것을 보여준다.
