The Statue of Liberty's hair is pinned up neatly at the back, but few see this side of the famous New York landmark
The Statue of Liberty
The Statue of Liberty in New York has welcomed millions to the city and her dignified expression is recognised worldwide.
However, many may not have seen her from behind and realised that her curled hair at the front is actually in an up-do at the back.
Tourists could find it hard to see as from the ground the back of her head is almost 300 feet up.

The Great Buddha of Kamakura
Even the most attractive monuments need an element of practicality, with window vents at the back of The Great Buddha of Kamakura to aid drying it out
The Great Buddha of Kamakura is a bronze statue of Amida Buddha that is located on the grounds of the Kotokuin Temple in Japan.
Even though the monument is aesthetically spellbinding, there are windows at the back that serve a practical purpose.
The open sections allow for the drying out of the inside of the Buddha, to help keep it in pristine condition.

Great Sphinx of Giza
Show your face! From the back the Great Sphinx of Giza looks less than extraordinary,
despite its famous human-headed lion face
The Great Sphinx of Giza draws millions of tourists every year to Egypt, with its face forming the focus of many travel pictures.
However from the back the Sphinx looks like a lump of rocks and is hardly distinguishable.
Carved from bedrock in front of Khafre's pyramid, the magnificent Sphinx depicts the Pharaoh as a human-headed lion, wearing the headdress of the Pharaohs.

The Hollywood sign
Many stop to take photos with the famous Los Angeles sign gazing down over the city
The Hollywood sign is one of the most photographed structures in Los Angeles - from the front.
Seen from behind, though, and it doesn't look nearly as striking. But the view is incredible.
Many are often surprised to learn that it's illegal to get close to the sign, which is located behind restricting gates and protected by security cameras and Park Rangers.
Forget sneaking in after dark as a Los Angeles Police Department officer is also stationed at the sign 24/7.

The Pyramids of Giza
Handy spot! An aerial shot from behind the Giza landmarks show how close the pyramids are to the bustling city
It is easy to give the impression of a long camel ride through the desert to the pyramids in Egypt.
What some people don't realise is they are actually located just on the edge of chock-a-block El Giza.
Furthermore, a Pizza Hut is located an ancient stone block's throw from the pyramids.

Christ the Redeemer

The Christ the Redeemer statue oversees all that goes on in Rio De Janeiro in Brazil.
Tourists can do so as well by travelling to the base of Jesus and looking down on the city.
Thankfully images from behind show that there's a handy escalator to help weary tourists to the top.

You can only appreciate the full wonder of the Niagara Falls, when you see an aerial view of waters about to tumble over the edge
Many recognise the crashing waters of the Niagara Falls, situated on the international border between Canada and the United States.
Aerial shots from behind provide a new perspective to the powerful waterfall, with surging waters flowing towards the giant drop.
Crowds can be seeing gathering on the viewing area to the left of the powerful falls.

The Brandenburg Gate
Nothing to see here! From the back, the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin, looks fairly unimpressive, without the view of the horse-drawn chariot
The four-horse chariot that sits atop the Brandenburg Gate is one of Berlin's most famous landmarks.
The sight is a lot less impressive, however, with the winged goddess of peace facing the other way instead.
The 18th-century neoclassical triumphal arch was originally part of a wall surrounding Berlin and was the main entrance to the city.

Buckingham Palace
Her Majesty's view: The back of Buckingham Palace is less known than its famous front, which is used for many public appearances by the Royal Family
Thousands flock to glimpse the luxurious home of the Royal Family, with many public appearances taking place on the famous balcony.
However only a lucky few see the home from the back, which is equally impressive.
