If you want to keep your ratings in rude health, a spot of gratuitous nudity usually does the trick.

So one contestant on I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here! went completely topless last night.

And another got her makeshift brassiere in a twist.

But while it is normally the younger, female contestants who strip down to their swimwear in front of the cameras, last night it was BBC journalist Michael Buerk who was keen to shed his clothes.

The 68-year-old showed off an enviable physique for a man of his age after agreeing to take part in the show following reports he was offered a record £120,000 fee by ITV

Sure enough, however, he was not alone in baring his flesh. Irish model Nadia Forde, 25, fashioned a bikini for herself out of bark. As she tried it on, she proclaimed: ‘I’m trying to create the Jungle Jane kind of look.’

American model Kendra Wilkinson, 29, managed to flash her behind as she showered.

And ex-footballer Jimmy Bullard, 36, stripped completely naked when he washed in front of motorbike racer Carl Fogarty, 49.

Despite admitting he is ‘very sniffy’ about reality television, Mr Buerk agreed to take part after reportedly being offered a record £120,000 fee by ITV.

She showed off her creative side as she protected her modesty with the handmade garment

However, the former newsreader has complained he will not be allowed to take it all home because of tough tax regulations.

It is thought the contestants have to give up 25 per cent of their fee to authorities in Australia, where the show is filmed, and a chunk of any earnings they make on the back of the show to the production company which makes it. Speaking just before he went into the jungle at the weekend, Mr Buerk complained: ‘It’s all horribly complicated, and I don’t understand it completely. But at the end of the day, whatever you end up with in your pocket is much less than you imagined.’

Meanwhile, Edwina Currie – who is being sent into the jungle as a surprise addition later this week – could push herself too hard, her daughter has warned.

Mrs Currie described the Conservative MP’s appearance as ‘ritual humiliation’.

Mrs Dorries, tweeted: ‘Well, given all the rude things Edwina Currie said about people who go on @ITV #iacgmooh I’m totally amazed at her hypocrisy.’
