Poland’s abortion rules are now among the strictest in any rich country

A court dominated by the ruling party bans abortions in cases of severe fetal defects

낙태법 금지에 거리로 뛰쳐나온 1백만 폴란드 시민들    2015년부터 폴란드를 통치해온 법과 정당은 사람들이 어떻게 살기아야 하는지에 대해 확고한 생각을 갖고 있다.  그것은 전통적인 가족을 옹호하고 동성애자들에 대한 위협으로 나타난다. 이제 이미 가장 엄격한 유럽에 속하고 있는 낙태에 대한 폴란드의 규제는 더욱 엄격해지려 하고 있다. 10월 22일 헌법재판소는 여성이 심각한 태아 결함이 낙태의 이유로 더 이상 언급할 수 없다고 판결했다. 폴란드에서는 이미 낙태가 금지되어 있다. 지금까지는 산모의 생명이 위험할 때, 강간이나 근친상간의 경우, 심각하고 돌이킬 수 없는 태아 결함의 경우 등 세 가지 예외가 있었다. 폴란드에서 합법적으로 수행되는 연간 1,000여 건의 낙태수술은 거의 모두 제3의 범주에 속한다. 다른 경우에는, 많은 여성들이 종종 이웃 독일로 가기도 하는데, 그 곳은 낙태가 훨씬 용이한 나라다. *한국의 낙태제도 낙태법(落胎法, 영어: Abortion law)은 합법적 낙태의 요건과 절차를 정한 법률을 말한다. 대한민국에서는 이를 모자보건법에 규정하고 있다. 현재 임신부의 요청에 따른 낙태를 허용하거나 처벌하지 않는 나라는 60여개국이며, 경제적 사유가 있을 때에 낙태를 허용하는 국가는 10여개국이다. 반면, 바티칸 시국, 몰타, 도미니카 공화국, 엘살바도르, 니카라과 등 5개국은 낙태를 예외 없이 불법으로 규정하고 있다.위키백과 황기철 콘페이퍼 에디터 Ki Chul Hwang Conpaper editor curator

The law and justice (pis) party that has governed Poland since 2015 has firm ideas about how it wants people to live. It champions the traditional family and paints gay people as a threat. Now the country’s restrictions on abortion, already among the tightest Europe, are about to become tighter. In a ruling on October 22nd the pis-controlled Constitutional Tribunal said that women would no longer be able to cite severe fetal defects as a reason for having an abortion.

Abortion is already banned in Poland. Until now there were three exceptions: when the mother’s life is in danger, in cases of rape or incest, and in cases of severe and irreversible fetal defects. Almost all the 1,000 or so abortions a year performed legally in Poland fall into the third category.
