2050년 로봇과의 성관계가 사람과의 성관계를 추월할 것이라는 전망이 나오고 있는 가운데 한 로봇 전문가는 ‘로봇과의 관계’가 중독성을 띨 수 있다고 경고했다.

There’s a plastic orchid with sinuous fake roots that spill over the counter.  Everything here is synthetic, but you only realise at second glance. From here, each year, up to 600 silicone sex dolls are sent out to bedrooms worldwide, including in the UK. They cost anything from $5,999 (£4,800) for a basic model to tens of thousands if the customer has unusually demanding specifications. From order to shipping, it can take more than three months to make a RealDoll. There is nothing seedy about this factory for the dozen or so technicians working here. 영국 일간 데일리메일은 미국 아이오와주 커크우드 대학의 로봇 전문가 조엘 스넬의 말을 인용해 “로봇과의 성관계는 언제나 가능하고 거부하지 않아 중독될 수 있을 것”이라고 보도했다. 이 때문에 사람들은 이런 중독에 적응하기 위해 삶을 재정리할 것이라고 스넬은 내다봤다. 또 “로봇과의 잠자리는 프로그램이 가능하기 때문에 각 개인의 요구를 충족시킬 수 있을 것”이라고 덧붙였다.

한 성치료사는 “많은 커플들이 섹스토이를 성관계에 활용하는 것처럼 로봇과의 관계를 즐기게 될 것”이라며 “로봇이 인간을 완전히 대체하지 않는 한, 성생활에 유익할 것”이라고 주장했다. 그는 “대인관계에 대한 두려움이나 혼자 있고 싶은 욕구 때문에 로봇을 이용한다면 그건 완전히 다른 뜻”이라며 “그럴 경우엔 중독성을 언급해야 할 것”이라고 덧붙였다.

최근 ‘바우처 코데스 프로’라는 회사가 성생활이 활발한 영국인 2,819명에게 ‘사이보그로 하고 싶은 활동’이 뭔지 표현해보라고 요청한 결과, 응답자의 72%가 ‘로봇이 섹스를 아주 잘할 것’으로 생각한다고 답변했다.

일부에서는 섹스 로봇이 섹스산업을 변화시킬 것이라는 분석도 나오고 있다. 일부 전문가들은 섹스 로봇이 매춘여성을 대체해 성노예, 인신매매 등 여러 문제를 근절하는 데 도움이 될 수 있다고 본다. 또 섹스 로봇은 다양한 성적 욕구를 채워주고, 여러 가지 제약이나 귀찮은 문제들로부터 해방시켜주며, 성관계 실패에 대한 두려움을 없애주는 등 순기능을 발휘할 수 있다는 것이다. 이 내용은 성 전문 인터넷신문 속삭닷컴이 보도했다.
