   가격이 150만달러(약 18억원)에 달하는 '순금 다이아몬드' 마스크가 등장할 전망이다. 한국에서 1천500원 하는 공적 마스크 118만6천장을 살 수 있는 금액의 '초호화 마스크'다.

AP통신은 이스라엘 보석업체 이벨(Yvel)이 18캐럿 백금에 3천600개 백색과 흑색 다이아몬드로 장식된 N99 필터 마스크를 제작 중이라고 9일(현지시간) 보도했다.

The 18-karat white gold mask will be decorated with 3,600 white and black diamonds and outfitted with top-rated N99 filters at the request of the buyer, said designer Isaac Levy. Levy, owner of the Yvel company, said the buyer had two other demands: that it be completed by the end of the year, and that it be the priciest in the world. 마스크 무게는 270g으로 일반 수술용 마스크의 약 100배 무겁다.

회사 측은 마스크 주문자가 미국에 사는 중국인 기업가라고만 밝혔다.

주문자는 '세계에서 제일 비싼 마스크를 연말까지 만들어달라'고 요구한 것으로 알려졌다.

마스크를 디자인한 아이작 레비 이벨 대표는 "돈으로 모든 것을 살 순 없겠지만, 아주 비싼 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19) 마스크는 살 수 있다"면서 "주문자는 비싼 마스크를 쓰고 돌아다니며 관심받길 원한다"고 전했다.

코로나19 대유행에 수많은 사람이 일자리를 잃고 경제적으로 고통받는 상황에서 초호화 마스크 제작은 부적절한 행위라는 지적에 레비는 "나라면 이 마스크를 쓰지 않을 것"이라면서도 "마스크를 주문받으면서 우리 회사 직원들이 지금과 같이 어려운 시기에도 일할 수 있게 됐다"고 답했다.
