대우건설 수주 ’중동 최초 해저터널‘ 이라크서 첫 삽
한국 침매터널 공법 시공능력 높이 평가, 알 주바이르 해저터널에 적용
대우건설이 지난해 10월 수주한 이라크 남부 바스라 주(州)의 침매터널 제작장 건설사업이 순조롭게 진행되면서 9일(현지시간) ’알 주바이르(Al Zubair) 해저터널‘ 본공사가 시작됐다.
이라크 뉴스매체 바그다드 포스트는 9일(현지시간) “이라크 기획부 장관 겸 국회 서비스산업위원회 위원장이 참석한 가운데 알 주바이르 해저터널 착공식이 열렸다”고 보도했다.

" He added that "the tunnel is considered the first of its kind in the Middle East as a tunnel for vehicles under water in a way to pour and float concrete pieces and download them to the bottom of the channel," explaining that "the length of the tunnel is 2.5 km as the upper surface of the tunnel will be 16 meters deep under water, while the bottom will be 31 meters deep. 착공식에 참석한 압둘라 라이비 이라크 교통부장관도 축사에서 “대우건설이 시공, 이탈리아 컨설팅업체 티콘텐트(Tcontent)가 감리를 각각 맡은 알 주바이르 해저터널 건설 프로젝트의 첫 단계인 침매터널 작업에 돌입했다”고 말했다.
침매터널(沈埋·Immersed Tunnel)은 터널용 구조물을 지상에서 만들어 물 속으로 가라앉힌 뒤 수중연결하는 최신 토목공법으로 해저터널 공사에 주로 사용된다.

라이비 장관은 “알 주바이르 해저터널은 침매터널 공법 방식으로 건설하는 차량용 터널로는 중동에서 첫 사례일 것”이라고 의미를 부여했다.
발주처인 이라크 항만청에 따르면, 알 주바이르 해저터널 프로젝트는 이라크 남부 바스라주 알 포(Al Faw) 지역에 조성되는 신항만 사업의 기반시설 공사의 하나이다.
대우건설은 알 포 지역과 움 카스르(Umm Qasr) 지역을 연결하는 침매터널 함체를 만드는 제작장을 조성하는 공사를 지난해 10월 수주했다. 공사금액은 1017억 원이며, 공사 기간은 착공 후 20개월이다.

바그다드 포스트에 따르면, 알 주바이르 해저터널은 길이 2.5㎞로, 해저 바닥까지 수심 31m 위에 설치된다. 길이 125m, 너비 35m, 높이 11.5m 크기로 제작된 사각구조물 10개가 특수도크에 설치될 예정이다.
터널 내부에는 차량사고 등 비상상황과 그에 따른 구조활동을 위한 공간이 양방향으로 설치된다.
이라크 정부는 이라크 정부는 원래 움 카르스~알 포 지역의 연결을 위해 교량과 도로를 건설하려 했으나, 군사·치안의 문제와 대우건설의 침매터널공사 시공능력을 높이 평가해 침매터널 건설로 계획을 변경한 것으로 알려졌다.
