Urbanisation, ageing demographics, rising burden of chronic diseases lead to a spike in demand for healthcare facilities

With the growth in population across the globe, the need for clinics, healthcare centres, and hospitals have witnessed a steady rise. In the UAE alone, healthcare systems are expanding and upgrading to develop a better healthcare infrastructure.
According to Arab Health’s report on 2019/2020 Hospital projects in the MENA region, Alpen Capital projects that the need for beds in the country will reach 14,969 in 2022, representing a demand for 2,069 new beds.

UAE의 또 다른 중요한 건강관리 프로젝트는 두바이에서 있는데, 두바이 보건국(DHA)은 127개의 전문 외래 진료소를 위해 전용으로 지어질 4층짜리 새 건물을 추가하여 기존의 두바이 병원을 확장하고 있다. 2020년 1분기부터 3만2100m2 규모의 건물 공사가 시작될 예정이다. Ajman-headquartered Thumbay Group which is headed by its founder president, Dr. Thumbay Moideen has marked the opening of its Thumbay Medicity in the emirate, with the facility being inaugurated by HH Sheikh Ammar bin Humaid Al Nuaimi, Crown Prince of Ajman and Chairman of Ajman Executive Council.
Thumbay Group has invested $272.3m (AED1bn) for Thumbay Medicity that includes medical education, healthcare, and research facilities.
Located within the medicity is Thumbay University Hospital, which includes over a hundred consultation clinics, a 100-bed long-term care and rehabilitation unit, upcoming centre for oncology equipped, centre for imaging, as well as other facilities.

Another significant healthcare project in the UAE is in Dubai, where the Dubai Healthcare Authority (DHA) is expanding the existing Dubai Hospital with the addition of a new four-storey building that will be dedicated for 127 specialised outpatient clinics. Construction work on the 32,100 square metres building will begin in Q1 2020.
In a statement, DHA said that the building will be two and half times bigger than the existing specialised clinics in Dubai Hospital. The specialised clinics will be dedicated to ophthalmology, internal medicine, orthopaedics, cardiovascular, endocrine, tumours, surgery, obstetrics and gynaecology, dental, and reproductive medicine.
The specialised clinics under the scheme will have a capacity to accommodate 254 patients per hour, with the radiology facility alone being able to serve 46 patients per hour.
Emirates Islamic Bank has inked a memorandum of association (MoA) with DHA to support the construction of the building by donating $6.8m (AED25m).
The emirates of Abu Dhabi and Al Ain follow suit with the development of healthcare clinics that will be managed and operated by Australian healthcare specialist Aspen Medical.
As part of its contract with Department of Health Abu Dhabi, six new clinics will be constructed across the emirates in areas including Al Wathba, Shakhbout City, Umm Ghaffa, Al Dhahra, and Al Salamat.
Ground on the Abu Samrah Primary Health Clinic, first of the six clinic has been broke, with the project set to be completed by 2020.
Factors such as urbanisation, ageing demographics, and a rising burden of chronic diseases are rapidly boosting the demand for healthcare facilities and this demand is here to stay.
