구글 "안드로이드폰서 웹페이지 읽어주는 기능 올해 출시"

    세계 최대 검색엔진 업체 구글이 7일(현지시간) 올해 중 안드로이드 기반 스마트폰에서 웹페이지를 음성으로 읽어주는 기능을 출시한다고 경제매체 CNBC가 보도했다.

구글은 이날 미국 라스베이거스에서 열린 '소비자가전전시회(CES) 2020'에서 이같이 발표했다.

구글의 인공지능(AI) 가상 비서 '구글 어시스턴트'가 지원하는 이 기능은 안드로이드 운영체제(OS)가 탑재된 스마트폰에서 영어로 된 웹사이트를 띄운 뒤 '구글, 읽어줘'라고 말하면 실행된다.

The additions are particularly aimed at making Assistant more user-friendly while maintaining its practical nature. In December, Google began rolling out the new Interpreter mode that works as a real-time translation feature for devices. This was initially brought to Android and iOS devices, with plans of compatibility to be introduced with Smart Displays and smart speakers sometime later. Now, the firm has unveiled that its Interpreter for Assistant will also be expanded to hotels, airports, stadiums, and the like as well. 그러면 구글 어시스턴트가 뉴스 기사나 블로그, 짧은 이야기 등 해당 웹사이트의 내용을 음성으로 읽어준다.

또 영어 텍스트를 힌디어나 독일어 등 42개의 다른 언어로 번역한 뒤 읽어주는 기능도 지원한다.

여기에 더해 구글 어시스턴트가 읽고 있는 대목을 따라 웹페이지가 자동으로 아래로 내려가고, 읽고 있는 문장을 강조해 표시하는 텍스트 하이라이트 기능도 추가하는 방안을 검토 중이라고 구글은 밝혔다.

이 기능은 올해 중 출시될 예정이다.

CNBC는 이 기능이 시각 장애를 가진 사람들에게 정보 접근을 더 쉽게 해줄 수 있다고 지적했다.

또 운동 등 다른 활동을 하면서 인터넷에서 정보를 찾아야 할 때도 유용할 것으로 보인다.
