높이 96m 세계 최대 마리아상, 2021년 필리핀서 완공
100m(96m)에 육박하는 세계 최대 성모 마리아상이 필리핀 천주교 전파 500주년인 2021년 필리핀에 완성될 것으로 보인다.
이 마리아상엔 현재도 관광객들의 발길이 끊이지 않고 있다.
14일 필리핀 현지 매체에 따르면, 필리핀의 유명 조각가 에두아르도 데 로스 산토스 카스트릴로가 디자인한 ‘모든 아시아의 성모 마리아’ 조각상은 필리핀 바탕가스시 몬테마리아 순례지에 있다.

‘평화의 탑(The Tower of Peace)’이라 불리기도 한다.
바탕가스시는 필리핀 수도 마닐라에서 남쪽으로 100㎞ 떨어져 있다.
몬테마리아 순례지 중심부에 세워진 이 마리아상은 아세안의 모든 민족 및 국가의 단합과 평화를 염원하며 만들어지고 있다.
바닥 면적은 1만2,000㎡로 조각상 아래 원형 건물이 받침대 역할을 한다.
건물과 조각상엔 성당을 비롯해, 교황 요한 바오로 2세 기념관, 식당, 소극장과 회의실, 상업 및 주거 공간이 들어서게 된다.
17층엔 전망대가 있다.
천주교가 필리핀에 전래된 지 500년이 되는 2021년 완공될 예정이다.
‘모든 아시아의 성모 마리아’ 조각상은 1983년 베네수엘라에 세워진 46.6m짜리 성모 마리아상인 ‘평화의 성모(Our Lady of Peace)’가 가지고 있던 세계 최대 성모상 기록을 넘어섰다.
아울러 미국 자유의 여신상(여신상 높이 46m, 받침대 높이 포함 93m)보다도 3m 높다.
브라질 리우데자네이루의 명물인 ‘구세주’ 예수상은 높이가 38m다.

구세주 그리스도상은 브라질의 리우데자네이루에 있는 예수 그리스도의 조각상이다. 프랑스인 건축가 폴 란도스키에 의해 설계되었고, 브라질과 프랑스의 기술자들이 합쳐 만들었다. 1922년과 1931년 사이에 건축되었으며, 약 30m의 높이를 갖고 있다. 받침대까지 합한 높이는 38m이다. 위키백과
