The Economist Intelligence Unit’s 2019 Safe Cities index ranked 60 cities by assessing digital, health, infrastructure and personal security indicators
Cities that did well had solid health care, dedicated cybersecurity teams and disaster continuity planning, among other factors
Tokyo, Singapore and Osaka have once again been named the world’s safest cities by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) in its third set of rankings based on urban safety and resilience.

EIU, 세상에서 가장 안전한 도시 ‘톱 10’ 발표…서울은? 세상에서 가장 안전한 도시에 일본 도쿄가 3번 연속 선정됐다. 최근 시위 장기화로 홍콩은 9위에서 20위로 추락했으며, 한국의 서울은 9위를 기록, ‘톱 10’ 안에 진입했다. 미국의 도시 중에서는 수도 워싱턴이 처음으로 톱 10 안에 진입했다. 워싱턴은 지난번 조사에서 23위에 머물렀으나 16계단 상승해 이번에는 7위에 랭크됐다. 한국의 서울은 지난번 조사 때보다 5계단 상승해 9위를 기록했다. 톱 10 순위는 일본 도쿄가 1위, 싱가포르가 2위, 일본 오사카가 3위였다. 4위는 네덜란드 암스테르담, 5위는 호주 시드니, 6위는 캐나다 토론토, 7위는 미국 워싱턴, 8위는 덴마크 코펜하겐, 9위는 한국 서울, 10위는 호주 멜버른이었다. 세계에서 가장 안전한 도시는 영국의 경제잡지인 이코노미스트의 자회사인 EIU가 선정한 것이며, 2년 마다 발표된다.

Hong Kong, on the other hand, dropped to 20th after ranking 11th in 2015 and ninth in 2017.
Other Asian cities ranked even lower included Beijing (31), Kuala Lumpur (35) and Jakarta (53).
In the Safe Cities Index 2019, released on Thursday, 60 cities from five continents were assessed on four factors: digital, infrastructure, health and personal security.
Across the four categories, there were 57 indicators evaluated – including 10 new indicators emphasising environmental resilience. Data was collected from February to April this year.
