A strange video from the 1950s has emerged showing how our forebears dealt with the Great Smog in London.
The quirky footage shows a woman wearing an outlandish mask that looks like a fishbowl or a space helmet as she walks down a crowded street.
Another bit of footage from the clip reveals how the mask works, with a man using a match to light a wick in a compartment attached to the side of the mask to defrost it.
The purpose of the device was to block out thick smog or polluted air, and the helmet appears to be a prototype.
