암호화폐의 ‘대장주' 격인 비트코인의 달러당 거래가격이 급등하며 3년만에 최고치를 기록했다고 미국 경제전문매체 CNBC가 17일(현지 시각) 보도했다.

CNBC에 따르면 비트코인 가격은 이날 1비트코인에 1만7000달러(약 1880만원)까지 올라 2017년 12월 이후 3년만에 최고치를 경신했다.
비트코인 가격은 이날 한때 1만7860달러까지 올라 2017년 12월 20일 이후 최고치를 기록했다. 하지만 그후 전날보다 6.1% 상승한 1만7760달러에 거래를 마감했다. 이 수치는 연초보다 150% 오른 가격이며 3월 최저치보다 360% 급등한 것이다.
올들어 전세계로 확산중인 신종 코로나바이러스 감염증(코로나19)으로 각국이 양적완화 정책을 추진하며 물가상승과 화폐가치 하락을 피할 수 없을 것으로 예상된다. 이에 따라 비트코인 등의 암호화폐가 안전자산으로 다시 주목을 받아 거래가 늘고 있다.
여기에 세계 최대 온라인 결제 업체 페이팔이 암호화폐 거래를 전세계에서 지원한다고 밝혀 쇼핑몰 등에서 신용카드처럼 쓰이며 이용 범위가 확대될 것으로 기대하고 있다.
