A woman in China has seen her blind date gone horribly wrong after bringing along dozens of her relatives to the romantic occasion to test her companion's generosity, according to local reports.
Without telling her date in advance, the Chinese woman allegedly showed up with 23 family members and turned their candle-light dinner into a rowdy banquet.
She was eventually left stranded with a whopping £2,300 bill after her potential Mr Right fled the restaurant upon receiving the cheque, Chinese media outlets claimed.
The Chinese woman, who remains anonymous, recently went on a blind date with 29-year-old Mr Liu in eastern Chinese province Zhejiang, reported local newspaper Taizhou Evening News.
According to the report, the date was set up by the man's mother after she was worried about her son who had been single for a while.
But he was taken by surprise when he saw his blind date, who arrived at the restaurant with two dozen relatives unannounced.

It is reported that he dashed off after seeing the bill, which added up to 19,800 yuan (£2,291) with expensive dishes and alcohol ordered by the relatives.

The date ended with Mr Liu failing the generosity test and his date paying for the meal herself.
They later reached an agreement that Mr Liu would pay for a small part of the meal with the brunt of bill shared among the woman's 23 family members.

둘 만의 오붓한 식사를 상상하며 식당에 간 그의 눈앞에 황당한 광경이 펼쳐졌다. 소개팅 상대인 여성이 자신의 친척 23명을 데리고 나와 함께 식사를 하자고 했기 때문이다. 여성은 남성에게 미리 "일행이 있다"고 알리지도 않았다. 이 여성은 왜 소개팅에 친척을 23명이나 동행했을까.
20일(현지시간) 중국 매체 환구시보의 영문판인 글로벌타임스, 영국 데일리메일 등 외신은 리우씨가 겪은 황당한 소개팅 사연을 소개했다.
소개팅 상대인 여성의 친척들은 몇 개의 테이블에 나눠 자리를 잡더니 값비싼 요리와 술을 주문했다. 그가 고대하던 소개팅은 순식간에 떠들썩한 연회가 돼버렸다. 남성은 식당 직원이 건넨 청구서를 보고 또 한 번 놀랐다. 음식값이 무려 1만 9800위안(약 338만원)이 나왔기 때문이다. 그는 식사 자리에서 몰래 빠져나와 황급히 집으로 돌아갔다.
만찬을 즐기던 여성과 그의 친척들은 리우씨가 먼저 가버린 것을 알고 "충격을 받았다"고 외신은 전했다.
이 여성은 현지 언론과의 인터뷰에서 "내 남자친구가 될지도 모르는 남성이 25명(남성과 여성 포함)의 식사비를 지불할 정도로 관대한지 테스트하고 싶었다"고 친척 23명과 함께 나온 이유를 밝혔다.
이 여성은 리우씨에게 전화를 걸었지만 받지 않아 어쩔 수 없이 식사비 전액은 여성이 모두 지불해야 했다. 하지만 이후 남성은 식사비의 일부인 4398위안(약 75만원)을 분담했다.
결국 남성은 여성이 말한 '관대함 테스트'에서 탈락했고, 1만 5402위안(약 262만원)의 식사비를 지불한 여성은 "내가 가장 큰 피해자"라고 주장했다.
이 이야기가 중국 현지 언론을 통해 알려지자 소셜미디어(SNS)상에선 '소개팅 비용을 남녀 중 누가 부담해야 하는가'에 대한 열띤 논쟁이 벌어지고 있다고 외신은 전했다.
SNS에선 "소개팅에선 남자가 돈을 내야 하지만, 소개팅 식사 자리에 23명을 데려오는 건 용납할 수 없다", "소개팅에서 서로 마음에 들었다면, 남자가 돈을 써야 하지만 그렇지 않을 경우엔 각자 계산해야 한다" 는 등의 반응이 나왔다.
또 “여성이 소개팅 자리의 어색함을 피하기 위해 친구 한두 명을 데리고 올 경우 남성이 돈을 낼 수 있다. 하지만 여성이 친구 7~8명을 데리고 오면, 즉시 자리를 떠나야 한다. 그 여성은 진실한 사람이 아니기 때문이다"는 글도 올라왔다.
