아델은 1일(현지시간) 자신의 인스타그램에 "당신의 예술을 통해 우리 모두가 사랑받고 있다고 느끼게 해줘서 고마워요"라는 글과 함께 사진을 게재했다.

사진 속 아델은 비욘세를 손으로 가리키며 환하게 웃고 있다. 그는 비욘세가 입은 의상과 같은 옷을 착용해 팬심을 드러냈다. 이와 함께 몰라볼 정도로 달라진 그의 외모가 눈길을 사로잡았다.

   지난 2008년 미국 클리블랜드 병원에서 안면 이식 수술을 받았던 57세의 코니 컬프가 수술과는 무관한 감염증과 그에 따른 합병증으로 사망했다고 CNN이 1일(현지시간) 보도했다.

클리블랜드 병원 측은 "컬프는 지금껏 안면 이식 수술을 받은 환자 중에 가장 오래 생존했다"며 "믿을 수 없을 만큼 용감하고 활달해 다른 사람에게 영감을 주는 여성이었다"고 밝혔다.

두 아이의 엄마였던 컬프는 지난 2004년 남편의 총격으로 얼굴의 중간 부분을 대부분 상실하는 중상을 입었다.

이후 시각장애와 함께 냄새를 맡거나 말을 할 수도 없었으며, 목에 수술로 장치를 달아 겨우 숨을 쉴 수 있었다.

그러던 중 지난 2008년 사망자로부터 안면을 기증받아 22시간에 걸친 이식 수술을 받게 됐다. 안면 조직과 뼈, 근육, 혈관, 신경 등을 접합하는 대수술이었다.

미국에서 거의 안면 전체를 이식하는 것은 컬프가 처음으로, 성형이 아니라 기본 신체 기능을 복구하는 게 의료진의 목표였다.

컬프는 2010년 얼굴을 기증한 여성의 가족을 만나기도 했다.

당시 컬프는 CNN과 인터뷰에서 "이제 냄새를 맡을 수 있어 행복하다"며 "이제는 스테이크뿐만 아니라 거의 모든 딱딱한 음식을 먹을 수 있게 됐다"고 기뻐했다.

컬프는 자신의 경험을 전달하며 장기 기증의 전도사로 강연 활동을 펼치기도 했다.
