류현진, 전격 토론토행…4년 8000만 달러 '韓 투수 최고액' [속보]
류현진의 새로운 팀은 토론토 블루제이스다.
류현진의 행선지가 결정됐다. ‘MLB 네트워크’ 존 헤이먼 기자는 23일(이하 한국시간) ‘류현진이 토론토로 간다. 4년 8000만 달러’라고 속보를 전했다. 8000만 달러는 우리 돈으로 약 930억원 거액이다.

Report: Hyun-Jin Ryu agrees to free-agent deal with Blue Jays Hyun-Jin Ryu, the 32-year-old left-hander who led the major leagues in ERA, agreed to terms on a free-agent contract with the Toronto Blue Jays on Sunday, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported. The deal is for four years and $80 million according to the report. Ryu cashes in on All-Star season Ryu was an All-Star for the first time in 2019, seven years after leaving the Korean Baseball Organization for U.S. free agency and, eventually, a six-year, $36 million contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He played last season with the Dodgers after accepting the $17.9nmillion qualifying offer and was healthy enough to make 29 starts for the first time since 2013, his rookie year. 한국인 메이저리거로는 지난 2013년 12월 텍사스 레인저스와 7년 총액 1억3000만 달러에 계약한 외야수 추신수에 이어 역대 2위 금액이다. 투수로는 지난 2000년 12월 텍사스와 5년 총액 6500만 달러를 받은 박찬호를 넘어 역대 최고액.
1억 달러를 넘기진 못했지만 4년 장기계약에 성공했다. 류현진에게 꾸준히 러브콜을 보내온 토론토가 4년 계약을 안겼다. 토론토는 아메라킨리그 동부지구 팀으로 캐나다에 연고를 두고 있다. 한국인 선수로는 2017년 불펜투수 오승환이 6개월가량 몸담은 바 있다.
이로써 류현진은 7년 정든 LA 다저스를 떠나 토론토에서 새출발한다.
