타이거, 마침내 82승째... 최다승 타이 기록 조조 챔피언십 4R 합계 19언더파… 와이어 투 와이어 우승 ‘골프 황제’ 타이거 우즈(44·미국)가 또 하나의 역사를 썼다. 미국프로골프(PGA) 투어 통산 최다승 타이 기록을 작성한 것이다. 28일 일본 지바현 인자이시의 아코디아 골프 나라시노 컨트리클럽(파70)에서 열린 조조 챔피언십 최종 4라운드. 전날 11번 홀까지 마쳤던 우즈는 이날 잔여 7개 홀에서 버디 2개, 보기 1개를 묶어 1언더파를 보탰다. 최종 합계 19언더파 261타를 적어낸 우즈는 2위 마쓰야마 히데키(일본·16언더파)를 3타 차로 제치고 우승컵을 안았다. 우승 상금은 175만5000달러(약 20억7790만원)다. 우즈는 이번 우승으로 2019-2020시즌 첫 우승이자 통산 82승째를 달성했다. 82승은 2002년 세상을 떠난 샘 스니드가 보유하고 있던 PGA 투어 최다승과 타이 기록이다. 우즈는 21세이던 1996년 라스베이거스 인비테이셔널에서 첫 우승을 거뒀고, 23년이 지난 이날 새로운 이정표를 세웠다. 우즈는 지난해 투어 챔피언십에서 약 5년 만에 우승하며 통산 80승째를 달성했고, 올해 4월 마스터스에서 11년 만에 메이저 승수를 추가하며 통산 81승을 기록했었다. 우즈는 이번 우승으로 올해 내내 따라다닌 건강 이상설도 어느 정도 불식시켰다. 날씨가 쌀쌀할 때면 걷는 게 부자연스러웠던 우즈는 "허리가 아프다"고 했었다. 더구나 지난 8월에는 왼쪽 무릎 관절경 수술까지 받았다. 하지만 무릎 수술 후 2달 만에 첫 출전한 우즈는 이번 대회에서 첫날 공동 선두로 나선 이후 한 번도 선두를 뺏기지 않고 ‘와이어 투 와이어’로 자신의 82번째 우승을 자축했다. 또한 3라운드까지 3타 이상 격차로 선두였을 때 승률 100%(25/25) 기록도 이어나갔다. 일본 최초의 PGA 투어인 이번 대회는 악천후로 인해 2라운드가 하루 연기되면서 차질을 빚었다. 당초 최종 라운드가 열릴 예정이던 27일에 3라운드에 이어 4라운드 일부 경기가 열렸고, 이날 4라운드 잔여 경기가 치러졌다. 3타 차 단독 선두로 최종 라운드 잔여 경기에 나선 우즈는 출발은 좋지 않았다. 12번 홀(파4)에서 두 번째 샷을 벙커로 보내면서 1타를 잃었다. 13번 홀(파3)에서는 약 1.5m 버디 기회를 맞았지만 놓쳤다. 실망한 표정이 역력했다. 운도 따랐다. 2타 차로 따라붙은 마쓰야마가 14번 홀(파4)에서 1m 버디 퍼트를 놓친 것이다. 이에 비해 우즈는 14번 홀에서 약 4m의 버디를 성공하며 다시 간격을 3타 차로 벌렸다. 마쓰야마는 16번 홀(파3)에서 중거리 버디를 성공하며 2타 차까지 따라붙었지만 승부를 뒤집기에는 다소 늦은 감이 있었다. 우즈는 마지막 18번 홀(파5)에서 벙커에서 친 세 번째 샷을 홀 3.5m 거리에 붙이며 버디를 잡아 우승을 확정한 뒤 환호하는 갤러리를 향해 손을 들어 인사했다. 우즈는 "최고다. 더 이상 기분이 좋을 수 없다"고 했다. 마쓰야마가 준우승을 차지한 가운데 임성재(21)와 로리 매킬로이(북아일랜드)가 13언더파 공동 3위에 올랐다. 안병훈(28)은 10언더파 공동 8위로 마쳤다. 민학수 기자 김세영 기자 조선일보 출처 : http://news.chosun.com/site/data/html_dir/2019/10/28/2019102800595.html |

“Tiger’s done,” it’s been said over and over. Even Woods thought his career was over in 2017 and said so to fellow green jacket winners at the Champions Dinner at the Masters that year.
Well, it’s going to be awhile before we cast him aside once again.
In his latest resurrection, Woods won the inaugural, storm-delayed Zozo Championship at Accordia Narashino Country Club, 11 weeks after last playing and two months after having surgery for the fifth time on his troublesome left knee.

No one saw this coming, but then, we should know by now never to doubt the guy. Even after his chances seemed to vanish with three bogeys to start the tournament, Woods rose like a phoenix in the Land of the Rising Sun.
Looking confident, relaxed and sound, Woods led the field with 28 birdies and shot 64-64-66-67 to top Hideki Matsuyama by three shots for his 82nd PGA Tour title, tying him with Sam Snead for most in history. Snead was 52 when he last won in 1965.

Thus, 23 years after his first victory in the 1996 Las Vegas Invitational, and four back surgeries, five knee operations and numerous other ailments later, Woods stunned the golf world and got the last laugh yet again.

“It’s satisfying to dig my way out of it and figure out a way,” Woods, 43, said of his many comebacks. “There were some hard times trying to figure it out, but I’ve come back with different games over the years, moving patterns, and this one’s been obviously the most challenging.
“Then having another procedure a couple months ago and again coming back and winning an event, not easy to do.”
