KTX보다 빠르다...부가티, 시속 490km로 '세계에서 가장 빠른 자동차' 등극
폭스바겐의 슈퍼카 제조사 부가티가 세계에서 가장 빠른 자동차 기록을 갱신했다.
미국 CNBC는 3일(현지 시각) 부가티의 신기록 소식을 보도했다. ‘부가티 시론’은 폭스바겐 에라레지앙 트랙에서 시속 304.77 마일(약 490km)를 기록해 코닉세그 아제라 RS가 세운 시속 445km의 이전 기록을 뛰어넘었다. 참고로 우리나라 KTX의 최대 운행 속도는 시속 300km다.

We have now achieved this – making ourselves, the entire team and myself, incredibly proud." 하지만 해당 부가티 시론 모델은 시중에서 당분간 구입할 수 없을 것으로 보인다. 사용된 차량은 신기록 달성을 위해 특별히 개조된 ‘프로토타입’ 버전이기 때문이다. 부가티 시론 일반형 모델의 최대 속력은 시속 261마일 (약 420km)이다.
이번 프로토타입은 기존 모델보다 여러 방면에서 성능이 개선됐다. 먼저 공기 저항을 줄이기 위해 특별 제작된 차체로 교체했고, 빠른 속력을 견디기 위해 미쉐린과 합작 생산한 특수 타이어를 사용했다.

이번 기록을 통해 부가티는 업계 최초로 ‘마의 시속 300마일’을 넘게 되었다. 관련 소식에 슈테판 빙켈만 부가티 최고경영자(CEO)는 "우리는 다시 한 번 우리의 가치를 보여줬다. 아무도 못 이룬 전례없는 영역에 (우리는) 들어서게 된 것"이라며 기뻐했다.
그러나 부가티는 이제 더 이상 기록 경쟁에 나서지 않을 듯 하다. 빙켈만 최고경영자는 "우리는 이미 여러 차례 최고의 자리에 올랐다"며 "이제는 다른 분야에 신경을 써야할 때"라고 말했다. 신형 럭셔리 슈퍼카에 집중해 해당시장을 선도한다는 것이 부가티의 목표다.
