노박 조코비치(1위) 는 윔블던 역사상 가장 위대한 경기 중 하나에 이어 다섯 번째 윔블던 우승을 차지한 후 오늘 오후 케임브리지 공작부인이 수여한 우승 트로피를 받았다.

로저 페더러의 아내 미르카가 두 손으로 머리를 감싸쥐고 케이트가 경이로움을 표시하는 등 테니스 사상 최고의 두 선수가 등장하는 극적인 피날레를 위해 팬들은 좌석에 바짝 다가섰다.

세르비아는 4시간 57분 만에 SW19에서 열린 남자 단식 결승에서 가장 긴 승리를 거두었고 마지막 세트가 12-12로 비긴 후 결정적인 동점 포인트를 터뜨린 첫 번째 선수가 되므로써 페더러를 위해 소리지르는 군중을 잠재웠다.

조코비치는 우승 순간 땅에 무릎을 꿇었고 그 센터 코트 관중들은 조코 비치에 박수를 보냈다.

조코비치는 '불행하게도 이런 훌륭한 게임에서 선수 중 한 명은 패배해야 한다는 사실이 '정말 비현실적이야.라고 말했다.

조코비치는 페더러가 8-7로 결승 세트를 따낼 때 2개의 매치 포인트를 살린 뒤 4시간 57분 만에 7-6(5) 1-6 7-6(4) 4-6 13-12(3)로 승리했다.

페더러(3위)는 라파엘 나달(2위)을 상대로 한 준결승전 승리를 이어가기를 바바랬지만 승리 운은 그를 따르지를 않았다.

Novak Djokovic was presented by the Wimbledon trophy this afternoon by the Duchess of Cambridge after he won his fifth Wimbledon title following one of the greatest matches of all time.

Fans were on the edge of their seats for the dramatic finale featuring two of tennis's all time greats, with Roger Federer's wife Mirka holding her head in her hands and Kate gasping with her hands over her mouth.

Clocking in at four hours and fifty-seven minutes, the Serbian won the longest ever men's singles final at SW19 and defied a crowd screaming for his opponent by becoming the first player to win a singles match on a deciding tie-break after the last set was drawn 12-12.

The Centre Court crowd applauded Djokovic as he knelt to the ground after his win and ate some grass - his celebratory tradition.

Kate, a patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club (AELTC), stepped on to the hallowed turf to hand over the silver gilt cup to Djokovic, and the runner's up trophy to Federer.

'Unfortunately in these kinds of matches, one of the players has to lose,' Djokovic said. 'It's quite unreal.'

Djokovic had saved two match points when Federer served for victory at 8-7 in the deciding set and went on to take it 7-6 (5) 1-6 7-6 (4) 4-6 13-12 (3) after four hours and 57 minutes.

Federer had hoped to follow up his emotional semi-final victory over Rafael Nadal by completing the double over his other great rival for the first time at a grand slam, but it was not to be.

They were playing in front of a capacity crowd packed with celebrities including Jeff Bezos and his girlfriend Lauren Sanchez, actor Benedict Cumberbatch and model Kendall Jenner.
