SILVIS, Illinois – Ping Golf and John Deere have combined forces to design a half-excavator, half-putter that can actually hit putts.

중장비에 퍼터 헤드, 길이 155cm의 세계 최대 괴물 퍼터 핑 골프(Ping Golf)와 농기구 회사인 존 디어(John Deere)가 세상에서 가장 큰 퍼터를 만들었다.
미국 PGA 투어는 11일 PGA 투어 존 디어 클래식에 등장한 대형 퍼터를 소개했다. 소형 굴삭기에 퍼터 헤드를 달았는데 헤드의 무게는 147kg, 헤드의 길이는 155cm, 헤드의 높이는 34cm다.
존 디어는 이번 주 열리는 PGA 투어 대회의 타이틀 스폰서로 트랙터 등 농기계를 만드는 회사다. 이전에도 굴삭기에 드라이버 헤드 등을 단 대형 골프채를 전시했다. 그러나 움직이는 정도지 실제로 사용할 수 없는 전시용이었다. 이번에 나온 대형 퍼터는 장난식이지만 사용이 가능하다. 주최측은 이 퍼터를 골프장 입구에 전시해 두고 원하는 사람들은 퍼터를 사용해볼 수 있게 했다. 커다란 공과 홀을 만들어 놓고 대회 직전에는 선수들이 이 퍼터로 홀아웃 게임을 했다.
존 디어 기술자들은 골프 용품 회사인 핑을 찾아가 디자인 방법을 배웠다. 퍼터는 헤드 가운데에 홈이 파진 앤서 퍼터다. 퍼터 헤드 페이스에 공을 치는 부분인 인서트는 존 디어 트랙터의 그릴을 사용했다. 성호준 기자 sung.hojun@joongang.co.kr 중앙일보 |

While the John Deere headquarters are based in Moline, Illinois, just miles down the road from TPC Deere Run where the putter is currently displayed, John Deere engineers flew out to Ping headquarters in Phoenix, Arizona about a month ago to start the design process with Tony Serrano, Senior Design Engineer at Ping. During the collaboration, John Deere and Ping used CAD (computer aided drafting) to design the putter head; Serrano says they first designed the putter to be the traditional size of a putter, and John Deere later blew it up to scale.
The putter head was meticulously designed with iconic features of Ping’s famous Anser putters, with John Deere tractor-inspired designs interweaved throughout. For example, the face “insert” of the putter is an ode to the grill of John Deere tractors and excavators, and the yellow colorway is an obvious shoutout to the iconic John Deere-yellow color featured on its machines and products.

캐나다 골프 선수 브룩 헨더슨이 박성현(26)을 제치고 ESPY 올해의 여자 골프 선수상을 수상했다.
11일 미 스포츠매체 ESPN은 2019 ESPY(Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly Award) 종목별 최고 선수를 발표하면서 이같이 밝혔다. 올해로 27회를 맞은 이 상은 프로야구와 프로농구, 프로골프 등 각종 스포츠에서 최고의 활약을 한 남녀 선수에게 수여하는 상이다.

ESPY 올해의 여자 골프 선수상은 지난 달 메이어 클래식에서 우승한 브룩 헨더슨에게 돌아갔다. 올해의 여자 골프 선수 후보로는 박성현, 헨더슨 외에 고진영(24), 에리야 쭈타누깐(태국)이 이름을 올렸다.
한국 여자 골프 선수들은 세계 최정상급 실력을 자랑하지만, ESPY 올해의 여자 골프 선수에 한국 국적의 선수가 뽑힌 것은 지난해 박성현이 유일하다.
올해의 남자 골프 선수상은 브룩스 켑카(29)가 받았다. 켑카는 지난해 US오픈과 PGA챔피언십을 연속 석권하는 등 뛰어난 기량을 펼쳐 타이거 우즈(미국)와 프란체스코 몰리나리(이탈리아), 저스틴 로즈(잉글랜드)를 밀어내고 수상의 영예를 안았다.

이날 시상식의 대상 격인 올해의 남자 선수로는 미국프로농구(NBA)의 야니스 안테토쿤보가 뽑혔다. 안테토쿤보는 함께 후보에 오른 브룩스 켑카(골프), 무키 베츠(야구), 패트릭 마홈스(미식축구) 등을 제치고 최고의 남자 선수상을 수상했다.
NBA 밀워키 벅스 소속인 안테토쿤보는 2018-2019시즌 정규리그에서 27.7점에 12.5리바운드, 5.9어시스트를 기록하며 소속팀을 동부 콘퍼런스 결승까지 이끌었다.
올해의 여자 선수로는 미국 축구 국가대표 알렉스 모건이 선정됐다. 알렉스 모건은 최근 국제축구연맹(FIFA) 여자 월드컵에서 맹활약을 펼쳐 미국 국가대표팀을 우승까지 이끌었다는 평을 받고 있다.
