RE2 Robotics launches new brand of robotic arms

Pittsburgh-based RE2 Robotics debuted a new robotic arm brand called RE2 Sapien, according to a news release.
The Lawrenceville-based company originally made robotic arms primarily for defense applications, but has since expanded into several other industries. The company’s newest brand of robotic systems include “intelligent” robotic arms with human-robot control interfaces, outdoor and underwater computer vision and autonomy capabilities, according to the release.
“The core robotic technology within the RE2 Sapien arms was originally developed by our team for the U.S. military, and we have built on that expertise to deliver commercial solutions in the aviation, construction, energy and medical markets,” David Lee, director of product management for RE2 Robotics, said in a prepared statement. “Additionally, our Maritime Dexterous Manipulation System, developed for U.S. Navy applications, will now be productized commercially as RE2 Sapien Sea Class arms.”
Jorgen Pedersen, president and CEO of RE2 Robotics, said, in the release, that the brand launch marks an “exciting new chapter” for the company, which was founded in 2001.

로렌스빌에 본사를 둔 이 회사는 처음에는 주로 방어를 위해 로봇 팔을 만들었지만, 그 이후로 여러 다른 산업으로 확장되었다. 이 회사의 최신 로봇 시스템 브랜드는 인간-로봇 제어 인터페이스를 갖춘 "지능형" 로봇 팔, 실외 및 수중 컴퓨터 비전, 자율 기능 등을 포함하고 있다.
사람이 이동하기 위험하거나 어려운 극한 환경을 포함해 가장 험하고 까다로운 용도에 사용되는 솔루션을 개발했다.
데이비드 리 RE2 로보틱스 제품관리부장은 "RE2 사피엔 암 내의 핵심 로봇 기술은 우리 팀이 미군을 위해 개발했으며 항공, 건설, 에너지, 의료 시장에서 상업적 솔루션을 제공하기 위해 그 전문성을 구축했다"고 말했다. 또한 미국 해군용으로 개발된 우리의 해상 덱스터 조작 시스템은 이제 RE2 사피엔 씨 클래스 무기로 상업적으로 생산될 것이다고 말했다.
