The Humble One is the solar-powered SUV of your dreams
Humble Motors is a fresh-from-2020 start-up (risky year to start a business) that has just revealed its first product. The Humble One is five-seat electric crossover that, according to its maker, will eventually become the world’s first solar-powered SUV.
While Aptera Motors is about to launch the first mass production (semi) solar-powered car, that is a tiny, lightweight pod, as opposed to an actual usable full-size SUV, like the Humble One is. Or at least promises to be if it isn’t just some slick renders powered by hopes and dreams.
At the moment, the Humble One is powered by conventional batteries, offering around 800km per charge. Thanks to 7.6 square metres of highly efficient solar cells on the roof, doors, windows and “fold-out solar array wings”, the company claims the car can recharge up to 97km of range during the day, with AC and DC charging options available as well.
Those wings sound interesting, but Humble didn’t elaborate further. Presumably the tech is still being patented and the company doesn’t want to show its hand early. Or they are just making stuff up.

Apparently, the SUV will be quite quick too. The company mentions a maximum of 761kW, which is the same as the Tesla Model X Plaid. Extra effort to keep the Humble One light and aerodynamic could mean it’s faster in straight-line sprints than the Tesla.
