DEWA to invest $23.4bn in the energy sector over the next 5 years DEWA has attracted investments of approximately $10.89bn (AED40bn) from the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has attracted investments of approximately $10.89bn (AED40bn) from the Independent Power Producer (IPP) model, which strengthens public-private partnerships. Through this model, DEWA received the lowest global solar energy prices five consecutive times, making Dubai a global benchmark for solar energy prices. DEWA has also attracted considerable investments to the UAE from the private sector and foreign banks, resulting in increased cash flows to the economy of Dubai and the UAE. In implementing solar energy projects of the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Solar Park (MBR Solar Park), the emirate has adopted the IPP model, which strengthens the partnership between the public and private sectors. Dewa는 현재 세계 최대의 태양 에너지 파크(Mohammed bin Rashid Solar Park)를 건설 중인데, 2030년까지 5,000 MW의 전력을 생산할 예정이며 Dh50B (약 136억 달러)에 상당하는 투자를 이끌어 낼 것을 시장은 전망했다.

현재 동 계획의 5번째 단계를 Shuaa Energy사의 주도로 진행 중이며, Shuaa Energy사의 지분 60%를 Dewa가 소유하고 있으며 나머지 지분은 Acwa Power 와 Gulf Investment Corporation의 컨소시엄이 소유하고 있다.
한편, 아부다비는 2030년까지 총 에너지 소비의 절반 이상을 청정 에너지 원천을 통해 충당할 예정으로 2GW Al Dhafra Solar Park 계획을 진행중이며 1.7GW의 아부다비 최초의 태양광 발전소인 Noor Abu Dhabi plant 이후 두 번째 프로젝트이다.
Noor Abu Dhabi는 Dh3.2B 상당의 투자로 이루어진 Joint Venture 사업으로 Abu Dhabi Power Corporation, 일본의 Marubeni 및 중국의 Jinko Solar 의 합작 사업이다.
팬테믹 기간 동안 Al Dhafra Solar Park 의 전기료(tariff)가 Noor Abu Dhabi Solar Park에서 생산된 전기료 보다 44% 저렴한 것으로 나타났으며, MENA 지역 주요 태양열 발전소로는 모로코 Quarzazate Solar Power Station, 이집트 Benban Solar Complex 및 사우디의 Sakaka Solar PV(photovoltaic: 광전지) Plant 가 있다.
