KT, 내년 상반기 AI 반려로봇 출시한다
스테이지파이브 누와 로보틱스 등과 MOU 체결
KT(대표 구현모)는 스테이지파이브, 누와 로보틱스, 아쇼카 코리아와 'AI 반려로봇 공동 사업을 위한 업무협약(MOU)'을 체결했다고 17일 발표했다.
이번 협약으로 4개사는 AI, 통신, 로봇, 콘텐츠, 사회적 가치 실현 등 보유한 기술력과 역량을 합쳐 어린이와 노인을 위한 차세대 AI 반려로봇 개발 및 사업화에 힘을 모을 계획이다.

누와 로보틱스는 로봇 관절 등 하드웨어와 로봇 소프트웨어 자체 기술을 보유한 글로벌 소셜 로봇 전문 기업이다. 아쇼카 코리아는 미국에 본사를 둔 글로벌 비영리단체(NGO) 아쇼카의 한국지부로 사회적 문제해결을 위해 사회혁신기업가를 발굴하고 지원하고 있다. 아쇼카 코리아의 참여로 AI 반려로봇 내 적용될 콘텐츠에 사회적 가치가 더해질 것으로 기대하고 있다.
이번 업무 협약을 통해 4개사는 내년 상반기 AI 반려로봇을 출시할 예정이다. AI 반려로봇은 팔 관절 움직임과 머리 끄덕임, 기가지니 AI 기반 인터랙티브 콘텐츠를 중심으로 어린이와 노인을 위한 맞춤형 서비스를 선보이게 된다.
어린이 콘텐츠는 일반적인 학습∙놀이 중심의 콘텐츠가 아닌 AI 로봇의 역동적인 움직임을 활용해 아이들의 신체 활동량을 높일 수 있는 서비스를 선보인다. 노인 콘텐츠는 치매 케어, 말벗, 복약지도 외에도 노인 맞춤 콘텐츠가 AI 반려로봇에 탑재된다. 조작에 어려움을 느낄 수 있는 노인들을 위해 간단한 음성명령을 통해 서비스를 이용할 수 있게 된다.
김채희 KT AI·빅데이터사업본부장(상무)은 "KT는 고령화 및 언택트 시대의 한계를 극복하기 위해 맞춤형 서비스를 제공하고 국민기업으로의 책임을 다하겠다"며 "앞으로도 KT는 따뜻한 AI 기술을 통해 노인 및 어린이 등 사회적 손길이 필요한 분들에게 보탬이 될 수 있도록 하겠다"고 말했다.

Many people buy dogs for companionship. But now pets can have their own playmates when their owners are away – companion robots that can help to monitor, feed, and entertain them.

애완동물들을 즐겁게 해주는 반려 로봇 많은 사람들이 친구 삼아 강아지를 산다. 하지만 이제 애완동물들은 주인이 없을 때 그들만의 놀이 친구를 가질 수 있다 애완동물들을 감시하고, 먹이를 주고, 즐겁게 해주는 반려 로봇이다.
중국 남부 선전시에 사는 소피아 챠오(30)는 2000위안(289달러)을 들여 고양이 투안투안(Tuantuan)을 샀다가 그 금액의 거의 4분의 3을 로봇 파트너에 다시 썼다. 로봇 동반자는 에보(Ebo)라고 불리며 선전(Shenzhen) 기반의 스타트업 에나봇이 개발했다. 챠오는 특히 최근 어머니와 1주일간 여행을 갔을 때 큰 도움이 되었다고 말했다. 챠오는 "여행하는 동안 고양이와 실시간으로 대화하고 교류할 수 있었다"고 말했다. Sophia Qiao, a 30-year-old who lives in the southern Chinese city of Shenzhen, spent 2,000 yuan (US$289) to buy her cat Tuantuan and then spent almost three-quarters of that amount again on a robot partner for it.
The robot companion is called Ebo and was developed by Shenzhen-based start-up Enabot. Qiao said it has been a great help, especially when she was on a one-week trip with her mother recently.
“I was able to talk and interact with my cat in real-time [while I was travelling],” Qiao said. “My cat loves the laser teasing function … and I was able to play with Tuantuan [via Ebo] every one or two hours.”

Ebo is fist-sized and shaped like a ball. With a Wi-fi connection, it allows cat owners to monitor and play with their cats remotely via a mobile app and even record videos. Apart from a high-definition camera and speaker, Ebo also uses artificial intelligence (AI) to recognise a cat’s face and can follow them, even detecting the cat’s mood and adapting its behaviour accordingly.
The small robot has wheels and can roll around the floor on its own. Built-in sensors help it to avoid obstacles and a self-return function allows it to dock itself when in need of a charge. It can also use a laser light to play with the cat.
Qiao said the robot had reduced her anxiety about leaving Tuantuan at home while travelling.
