액티브 서지컬,1500만 달러 투자 유치

미국과 유럽 시장 겨냥해 수술 플랫폼 상용화 박차

    미국 매사추세츠주 보스톤에 위치한 수술용 로봇 플랫폼 업체인 ‘액티브 서지컬(Activ Surgical)’이 1500만 달러의 투자자금을 유치했다고 발표했다.'

액티브 서지컬은 아티스 벤처스(ARTIS Ventures)가 주도한 펀딩 라운드에서 의료헬스 분야 벤처캐피털인 LRV헬스, 그레이트포인트 벤처스, 타오캐피털 파트너스, 라이징 타이드VC, DNS 캐피털 등으로부터 1500만 달러의 투자금을 유치했다. 지난해 10월 1100만 달러를 포함해 지금까지 총 3200만 달러의 자금을 투자받았다.'

Activ Surgical raises $15 million to advance autonomous and collaborative robotic surgery Boston-based startup Activ Surgical has raised a $15 million round of venture funding led by ARTIS Ventures, and including participation from LRVHealth, DNS Capital, GreatPoint Ventures, Tao Capital Partners and Rising Tide VC. The round will help Activ continue to develop and expand availability of its software platform, which it launched to market in May. Activ Surgical’s  ActivEdge platform uses data collected from surgical implements outfitted with sensors created by the company to collect real-time data during the actual surgical process. That data is then used to inform the development of machine learning and AI-based visualizations that can provide guidance to surgeons and surgical systems to help them reduce the occurrence of potential errors, and ultimately improve outcomes for patients. 액티브 서지컬은 인공지능, 컴퓨터비전, 로보틱스 기술을 통합한 수술용 로봇 플랫폼인 ‘액티브엣지(ActivEdge)’를 개발하고 상용화를 적극 추진하고 있다. 이번 유입 자금을 미국과 유럽의 상용 시장 진출에 집중 투자한다는 계획이다.

액티브 서지컬에 따르면 미국에서 심장병과 암으로 인해 사망하는 사람 가운데 40만명이 매년 수술중 의료 사고로 사망하고 있는 것으로 추정되고 있다. 액티브 서지컬은 자사가 개발한 특허 소프트웨어는 의도하지 않은 의료 사고를 줄여주고 수술중 빠른 의사결정을 지원한다. 액티브엣지는 특정 수술용 로봇에 특화된 제품이 아니라 여러 하드웨어에 적용할 수 있는 기술이라는 게 회사측 설명이다.

토드 유센(Todd Usen) 액티브 서지컬 CEO는 “우리의 목표는 센싱과 지능 기술을 전세계적으로 민주화하는 것”이라며 “추가적인 장비나 시스템 구입없이도 하드웨어에 구애받지 않는 오픈 플랫폼을 만들었다"고 말했다. 이를 통해 수술 의사들과 환자들에게 보다 안전한 의료적인 성과를 제공하겠다는 것이다.

액티브엣지는 크게 ▲액티브사이트(ActivSight)-실시간으로 수술에 관한 데이터와 이미지를 시각화해 보여주는 기술 ▲액티브인사이트(ActivInsight)-수술 과정에서 수집된 방대한 데이터를 활용해 수술의사들에게 증강된 비주얼 이미지와 실시간 가이던스를 제공하는 기술 ▲액티브어시스트(ActivAssist)-액티브인사이트 데이터 기반의 머신러닝을 이용해 수술용 장비의 위치를 최적화하는 기술 ▲액티브파일롯(ActivPilot)-최고의 성과가 나올 수 있도록 수술 의사를 지원하는 자율수술 기능 등이다.
