From 30 June 2020 onwards, the Hyundai Motorstudio Goyang is showing a new permanent exhibition entitled Hyundai Future Mobility. The globally active company provides insights into its vision of mobility in the future. ATELIER BRÜCKNER planned, designed and implemented the exhibition.

고양시 '현대미래모빌리티' 전시회    2020년 6월 30일부터 한국의 고양시에서는 현대자동차 주관 '현대미래모빌리티'라는 새로운 상설 전시회가 열리고 있다. 이 글로벌 기업은 향후 모빌리티 비전에 대한 통찰력을 제공한다. 아틀리에 브뤼크너는 이 전시회를 기획, 설계, 구현했다. 3국어(한국어, 중국어, 영어)로 설명되는 자동차 산업이 변혁을 겪고 있고 창의적인 접근법, 비전적 사고, 그리고 무엇보다도 대체 드라이브 기술이 요구된다는 모빌리티 분야에서 인류가 직면하고 있는 현재의 어려움에 대한 소개로 시작된다.  방문객들은 밝게 디자인된 "연구소"에서 가능한 한 해결책을 발견할 수 있는데 바로 수소 드라이브다. 전시룸은 커다란 인터랙티브 미디어 테이블이 차지하고 있다. 이곳에서 관람객들은 연구소장 H씨와 함께 미니어처 연료전지를 제작한다. 부품들이 벽에 기대어 선반에 놓여 있다. 맞은편 벽면에는 미니어처 부품들의 실물 크기의 상대 부품들을 볼 수 있고, 세팅에 배치하고, 애니메이션을 통해 설명할 수 있다. 조립 과정 중에, 미디어 표는 기술적 세부사항과 그것들이 어떻게 작동하는지에 대한 추가 정보를 보여준다. 인접한 'NEXO실'에서는 연소과정과 연관된 '공기정화' 시스템의 기능적 효과에 대해 알아본다. 넥쏘는 연료전지 기술을 적용한 최초의 양산차다. 가동을 할 때는 배출가스가 발생하지 않고 공기를 여과하고 정화한다. 유리 뒤에서 방문객들은 짙은 안개에 싸인 구리 금속성의 NEXO를 발견한다. 이는 우리 도시의 오염된 공기의 상징이다. 안개가 자동차의 라디에이터 그릴을 통해 빨려 들어간다. NEXO는 주변 공기를 여과하고 안개가 점차 걷힌다. '현대 미래 모빌리티' 전시회는 고양 모터스튜디오의 보완 역할을 하며, 개인 모빌리티의 모든 측면과 관련된 새로운 미래지향적 주제를 추가했다. 비엔나 건축가 들루간 메이슬이 기획한 건물인 이 모터스튜디오는 아틀리에 브뤼크너가 만든 상설 전시회로 2017년 문을 열었다. 그것은 한국의 서울 근처에 위치해 있다. 황기철 콘페이퍼 에디터 Ki Chul Hwang Conpaper editor curator

The trilingual exhibition (Korean, Chinese and English) begins with an introduction on the current challenges mankind is facing in the area of mobility: the automotive industry is undergoing a transformation; creative approaches, visionary thinking and, above all, alternative drive technologies are called for. One possible solution can be discovered by visitors in the brightly designed “Lab”: the hydrogen drive.

 

The room is occupied by a large interactive media table. Here, visitors work with the head of the laboratory “Dr. H.” to build a miniature fuel cell. The components are on shelves placed against the wall. On the opposite wall, the life-size counterparts of the miniature components can be seen, placed in a setting and explained by means of an animation. During the assembly process, the media table shows additional information on the technical details and how they work.

In the adjacent “NEXO Room”, visitors learn about the functional effectiveness of the “air purification” system, which is associated with the combustion process. The NEXO is the first mass-produced vehicle with fuel-cell technology. When it is being operated, it does not produce any emissions but filters and purifies the air. Behind glass, visitors discover a copper metallic NEXO, enveloped in a dense mist – a symbol of the polluted air of our cities. The mist is sucked in through the radiator grille of the car. The NEXO filters the ambient air and the mist gradually clears.

The “Activity” section, which is the next area of the exhibition, is dedicated to the topic of “autonomous driving”. In futuristic vehicles called “S-Link”, visitors set off on a virtual journey to a national park. Accompanied by artificial intelligence and an imaginary family, they experience the level of convenience and comfort that will be possible in future: the seats can be turned to face each other and an interactive table comes out of the wall. Passengers can play games with each other, relax during a health check or engage in mobile shopping during their journey by car.

The exhibition ends with an immersive, aesthetic experience relating to the topic of “Connectivity”. Inside a darkened room, 73 luminous pendulums are presented in a staged show. The interplay of movement, light and sound serves as a metaphor for networked communication in future mobility systems.

After the show, the three-dimensional installation can be walked through, whereby visitors stride through the pendulum field. With the help of sensors, the rods hanging from the ceiling react to the movements of the visitors. They pull away and, one after the other, open up a pathway through the room. The visitors feel motivated to try out new directions themselves.

The “Hyundai Future Mobility” exhibition serves as a supplement to the Motorstudio in Goyang, adding new future-oriented topics relating to all aspects of individual mobility. The Motorstudio, a building planned by Vienna architects Delugan Meissl, was opened in 2017 with a permanent exhibition created by ATELIER BRÜCKNER. It is located near Seoul in South Korea.
