Etihad Rail, the UAE’s national railway network, which will be 1,200-kilometre-long upon completion, is “progressing well”, according to executive director of relation, Mohammed Al Marzouqi, who said that Phase 2 contracts of the gigaproject are valued at $4.9bn (AED18bn).

49억불 규모 UAE 에티하드 철도 2단계 건설 본격화    UAE 국영철도 모하메드 알 마르주키에 따르면 에티하드 철도 네트워크 2단계 계약 금액 규모가 49억 달러 (AED180억 달러)에 달한다고 밝혔다. 총 연장 1,200 킬로미터 길이의 UAE 국가 철도망인 에티하드 프로젝트는 "잘 진행되고 있다"고 말했다. 알 마르주키는 아랍에미리트(wam) 통신과의 인터뷰에서 에티하드 철도가 사우디와 국경을 접하고 있는 알과이파트부터 동부 해안의 후지이라와 코르팍칸까지 철도망 2단계 건설을 시작했다고 밝혔습니다. 총연장 139km A단계는 사우디와의 국경에서 루와이스와 알 구와이팟을 연결하며, B단계는 타리프에서 세흐 슈와이브까지 216km, C단계는 예벨 알리에서 샤르자까지 94km를 , D단계는 샤르자에서 후지와라, 코르팍의 항구까지 145km를 연결하게 된다. 에티하드 철도 또한 새로운 철도차량을 생산하고 그 규모를 45대로 늘리고 있으며, 또한 아부다비 알 파야에 주요 운영 및 유지관리 센터를 설립하고 있는데, 이 센터는 프랑스 회사인 빈치(Vinci) 건설이 주도하는 조인트벤처에 의해 관리되고 있다. 에티하드 국영철도(Etihad Rail)는 또한 알 루와이스, ICAD, 칼리파 항, 두바이 산업 시티, 제벨 알리 항, 알 게일, 시지 항, 그리고 후지이라 항과 코르팍칸 항구에 역을 건설하여 열차의 하역 및 하역, 컨테이너 보관 및 유지보수를 담당하고 있다. 올해 초, 에티하드 국영철도(Etihad Rail)은 캐터필러 회사인 Progress Rail Travic Inc.에 철도망용 기관차 공급 계약을 체결했다. 이번 거래로 에티하드 레일사의 기관차는 총 45대로 7대의 기관차로 구성된 현재의 6배에 달한다. Al Marzouqi told the UAE’s Emirates News Agency (Wam) that Etihad Rail has begun construction of Phase 2 of the rail network from Al Guwaifat bordering Saudi Arabia to Fujairah and Khor Fakkan on the eastern coast, which is 605km-long.

Stage A extends 139km to link Ruwais with Al Ghuwaifat at the border with Saudi Arabia; Stage B covers 216km from Tarif to Seeh Shuaib; Stage C runs 94km from Jebel Ali to Sharjah; and Stage D runs 145km from Sharjah to the ports of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan.

Etihad Rail is also manufacturing a new fleet of locomotives and increasing its fleet size to 45, in addition it is establishing a major operations and maintenance centre in Al Fayah, Abu Dhabi, which is managed by a coalition led by the French company, VINCI Construction.

The company is also building stations in Al Ruwais, ICAD, Khalifa Port, Dubai Industrial City, Jebel Ali Port, Al Ghail, Siji, and the ports of Fujairah and Khor Fakkan, to handle the loading and unloading of trains, as well as for container storage and maintenance.

Earlier this year, Etihad Rail awarded a contract for the supply of locomotives for the rail network to Progress Rail Locomotive Inc., a Caterpillar company. With the deal, Etihad Rail’s fleet of locomotives totalled to 45, which is equivalent to six times the current fleet that consists of seven locomotives.

Etihad Rail also launched a training and employment Emiratisation programme for aspiring engineers to work on projects. The contractors and joint venture partners working on the design and build elements of stage two of the Pan-Emirates railway network will train and hire 50 qualified UAE nationals in various fields as part of the porgramme launched in Emiratisation push.
