LS전선, 美 미시간호 해저 케이블 사업 수주…660억원 규모
LS전선이 미국에서 약 660억원 규모의 해저 케이블 교체 사업을 수주했다.
이번에 수주한 사업은 미국 중북부 미시간호에 1970년대 설치한 노후 해저 케이블을 2021년까지 교체하는 것으로, 미시간주의 전력 수급 안정에 기여할 것으로 기대된다. 미국은 노후된 전력망이 많아 앞으로도 교체 수요가 꾸준히 증가할 것으로 예상된다.

LS Cable wins $54 mln deal to replace submarine power cable in Lake Michigan SEOUL -- LS Cable & Systems, a major South Korean cable maker, has secured an order worth 66 billion won ($54 million) to replace an old submarine power cable in Lake Michigan, one of the five Great Lakes of North America, by 2021. Multiple cable lines and pipelines run along the bottom of Lake Michigan. LS Cable said it would step up efforts to win more orders as the development of offshore wind farms is leading the growth of the underwater cable market in the United States. "The U.S. submarine cable market is expected to maintain steady growth due to the replacement of old cables and new demand for offshore wind power development," LS Cable president Myung Roh-hyun said, adding his company would explore new markets in the U.S., Europe and Africa. LS전선은 지난 2006년 미국 초고압 케이블 시장에 처음 진출한 후 2017년 미국 첫 해상풍력단지 연계 사업을 성공적으로 수행하는 등 신뢰를 꾸준히 쌓아 왔다고 설명했다.
명노현 LS전선 대표는 "미국 해저 케이블 시장은 노후 케이블의 교체와 해상 풍력 개발에 따른 신규 수요가 더해져 지속적인 성장이 예상된다"며 "LS전선은 기존 아시아 중심에서 벗어나 미국과 유럽, 아프리카 등 신시장 개척에 마케팅을 집중할 것"이라고 말했다.
LS전선은 지난 해 대만에서 총 5000억원 규모의 해저 케이블 공급 계약을 체결한 데 이어 최근 유럽과 중동에서 수천억원대 사업을 수주, 글로벌 시장 공략을 이어 가고 있다.
