Creepy Robot Dog That Wants to Inspect Your Construction Site is For Sale Now

A few months ago, we wrote about a pretty weird and creepy robot dog that was designed to navigate tough and constantly changing terrain, such as on a construction site.  Boston Dynamics, the maker of robot, has now officially announced it is available for sale.

SPOT는 로봇 개라고 불리며 계단을 오르고, 문을 열고, 충돌을 피하고, 어쩌다 넘어지면 몸을 추스릴 수도 있다. 아마도 더 중요한 것은, 그것은 최대 31파운드(약 14kg)를 운반할 수 있고, 일단 진행 추적을 위해 센서와 카메라와 같은 기기로 커스터마이징되면, 잠재적으로 작업 현장에서 매우 유용하게 쓰일 수 있다는 것이다. 만약 더 많은 기계들이 로봇에 연계되어 있지 않으면, 한번에 14kg의 수작업이 가능하도록 만들 수 있다. 최대 90분까지 사용할 수 있는 배터리를 장착하여, SPOT는 시간당 최대 3마일(4.8km)을 주행할 수 있다. 섭씨 -20~45도 사이에서 작동할 수 있으며, 물 및 먼지 저항 등급은 IP54이다. 그건 다 좋은데 아마도 이 개를 빗속에는 빠뜨리고 싶지는 않을 것이다. SPOT, as the robot dog is called, can climb stairs, open doors, avoid collisions, and even pick itself up if it happens to fall.  Perhaps more importantly, it can carry up to 31 pounds, making it potentially very useful on the jobsite once it’s customized with gadgets like sensors and cameras for progress tracking. If you’re not about strapping more gadgets to your robot, then you can make it do manual labor 30 pounds at a time.

Sporting a swappable battery that can last up to 90 minutes, SPOT can travel as fast as 3 miles per hour. It can operate between temperatures of -4F to 113F and has water and dust resistance rating of IP54.  That’s decent, but you’re not going to want to leave this dog out in the rain.

IEEE Spectrum reports that while SPOT Is technically for sale, it’s not just available to any ole consumer.  Businesses in select industries, like construction, will be considered first. Pricing has not yet been released, but initial rumors are that it will cost as much as a luxury vehicle.
