미쓰비시(三菱) 상사와 도쿄전력(東京電力)은 25일, 카타르에서 출력 240만kw(킬로와트)의 대형화력발전소를 건설하고 운영하는 사업을 수주했다고 발표했다.  해수를 담수화하는 계획도 포함해 수주했으며 총사업비는 약 3천억 엔(약 2조 7천억 원)이다. 2017년에 가동해 25년간 운영한다. 도쿄전력이 해외에서 발전사업을 수주한 것은 동일본대지진 이후 처음이다. 경제성장으로 증가할 것으로 예상되는 카타르의 전력･물 수요를 주시해 미쓰비시 상사와 함께 해외사업의 수익을 확대하고자 한다. 이 사업에는 카타르의 국영기업 등도 출자했으며 미쓰비시 상사의 애초 출자비율은 29.55%로 도쿄전력이 0.45%다. 이번 가을까지 도쿄전력의 출자비율을 약 10%로 높이고 미쓰비시 상사는 약 20%로 하는 방향으로 검토한다. 화력발전소는 카타르 수도인 도하 근교에 건설하고 천연가스를 연료로 사용한다. 미쓰비시 상사와 도쿄전력이 공동으로 작년 5월에 카타르 측의 국제 입찰에 대응했다. 【교도통신】

by Yuriy Humber Tokyo Electric Power Co. and Mitsubishi Corp. won a tender to build and run a 2,400 megawatt power station and a water desalination plant in Qatar. The companies agreed with Qatar General Electricity and Water Corp., also known as Kahramaa, on a 25-year power and water-purchase agreement, Tokyo Electric and Mitsubishi said in a joint statement. The desalination plant will have a capacity of 590,000 cubic meters per day. The water and electricity facilities will be 30 percent owned by the Japanese firms, with the rest held by Kahramaa and two more Qatari state-backed entities. Operations at the site, 20 kilometers (12 miles) south of Qatar’s capital Doha, are due to start in 2017. The project follows Tepco’s strategy to move beyond its home market, where demand is stagnating and operations are complicated by industry deregulation and the multi-billion dollar burden of cleaning up the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Tepco, Japan’s biggest utility, last year joined Marubeni Corp., a trading house rival of Mitsubishi, and local partners to build a $1 billion coal-fired power plant in the Philippines. The two firms hold their 30 percent of the Qatar project via K1 Energy, in which Tepco has 1.5 percent and Mitsubishi the rest. The two partners are in talks to raise the utility’s stake in the project.
