중동과 아프리카에서 총 12.3GW(기가와트)규모의 태양광발전소가 건설 중인 것으로 나타났다.   미국 NPD그룹의 태양전지부문 솔라버즈는 아프리카 29개국과 중동 7개국을 대상으로 태양광발전소 건설계획을 조사한 결과 아프리카에서 11GW 이상, 중동에서 최소 1.3GW에 달했다고 밝혔다.   전체 태양광발전소 건설 계획의 99%는 지상설치형이며, 평균 출력규모는 대형화하고 있는 는 추세다.   특히 지금까지 메가솔라를 건설하지 않았던 나라와 그동안 건설이 활발하지 않았던 나라에서도 대규모 메가솔라를 건설하고 있다. 아프리카에서는 최근 알제리 카메룬 이집트 에티오피아 가나 케냐 모로코 나이지리아　세네갈 스와질랜드 우간다 잠비아 짐바브웨 등이 출력 50MW이상의 메가솔라 건설계획을 내놨다. 특히 케냐와 짐바브웨에서는 태양광발전소 건설이 붐을 이루고 있는 실정이다.   중동과 아프리카지역의 경우 그 동안 경제적 여유가 있는 남아프리카공화국과 이스라엘 등 일부 나라에서만 태양광발전소를 건설해왔다.   이같은 현상은 사하라 이남을 중심으로 전력공급 수요가 급증하고 있는데다, 유럽시장이 급속 냉각되면서 프로젝트개발 사업자들이 아프리카 시장개척에 열을 올리고 있기 때문이다.   이에 따라 중동과 아프리카의 태양광발전 시장은 한동안 급성장을 계속할 것으로 전망된다. 글로벌이코노믹 김경삼 기자

(SeeNews) - Sep 22, 2014 - The solar photovoltaic (PV) projects in the Middle East and Africa exceed 12,300 MW in capacity, according to NPD Solarbuzz's latest report covering downstream PV project activity in the MEA region.   The researcher has determined that Africa has solar PV capacity of over 11,000 MW in the works, while the Middle East pipeline includes more than 1,300 MW. NPD Solarbuzz’s report covers completed and in-progress solar projects in the MEA region. Over 99% of the potential PV capacity in the Deal Tracker represents ground-mounted projects.   The majority of Africa’s existing PV capacity is located in South Africa, which has almost 700 MW of completed solar plants covered in the report. In contrast, only 7% of the identified project capacity on the rest continent has already been completed, NPD Solarbuzz noted. “Growth constraints for PV across Africa include weak energy infrastructure, corruption, and political and social instability,” said analyst Susanne von Aichberger.   When it comes to the Middle East, Israel is the region’s largest PV market as it has around 260 MW of completed projects and more than 300 MW under development. Saudi Arabia, on the other hand, is expected to become the host of large PV schemes as soon as it initiates its renewable energy tender programme, the research firm mentioned. Last but not least, Jordan is also considered a promising PV market with its pipeline of 600 MW.   NPD Solarbuzz noted that 22% of the Middle East PV capacity listed in the Deal Tracker refers to already completed installations.   According to von Aichberger, South Africa, Israel and Saudi Arabia will “offer stable demand levels within the MEA region over the next few years.” renewables.seenews
