Dow plunges nearly 1,000 points as coronavirus cases surge in South Korea and Italy

Hong Kong/London (CNN Business) - Stock markets are falling around the world after the number of coronavirus cases surged in Italy and South Korea, putting two more major economies at risk from a virus that has already caused widespread disruption in China.

이탈리아와 한국에서 코로나바이러스 환자가 급증하면서 세계 증시는 이미 중국에 광범위한 혼란을 야기한 바이러스로 인해 두 개의 주요 경제 대국을 더 위험에 빠뜨리고 있다.

다우지수는 월요일 미국 시장이 개장했을 때 997포인트(3.4%)나 급락했다. S&P 500지수도 3.2%까지 떨어졌고 나스닥지수도 4.3% 가까이 하락했다. 시장 변동성의 척도인 VIX는 40%나 급등했다.

The Dow plunged as much as 997 points, or 3.4%, when US markets opened on Monday. The S&P 500 fell up to 3.2%, and the Nasdaq lost nearly 4.3%. The VIX, a measure of market volatility, shot up 40%.
