태국 동북부에서 8일(현지시간) 오후 군인 한 명이 부대와 쇼핑몰 등에서 총기를 난사, 최소 20명이 사망했다고 AP통신 등이 보도했다.

사건 발생 당시 한국인 8명도 해당 쇼핑몰을 찾았다가 대피 상태로 있던 중 현지 경찰의 도움으로 빠져나온 것으로 전해졌다.

AP는 태국 보건부 장관의 말을 인용해 이번 사건으로 최소 20명이 사망하고 31명이 부상했다고 밝혔다. 또 10명의 부상자가 심각한 상태로 병원으로 이송됐다고 전했다.

사망자 수가 10~17명 등 분분했지만 최소 20명으로 늘어난 것이다.

보건부 장관은 사건이 발생한 쇼핑몰 안에 시체가 남아 있지는 않지만, 추가적인 부상자나 사망자가 있는지는 알지 못한다고 말했다.

태국 당국은 범인이 발견됐는지, 체포됐는지는 아직 언급하지 않았다.

A member of the security forces was killed early on Sunday in a raid on a shopping mall in northeastern Thailand where a soldier who shot dead at least 20 people was holed up.

 

The killings began at around 3 pm (08:00 GMT) when the soldier opened fire in a house before moving to an army camp and then to the mall in Nakhon Ratchasima, posting messages on Facebook as he went.

Early on Sunday, gunfire broke out at the mall as security forces tried to dislodge the soldier, identified by police as 32-year-old Jakrapanth Thomma, who is armed with assault weapons stolen from his barracks.
