Italy plans to invest heavily in infrastructure after bridge collapse

Italy will introduce an infrastructure plan in September aimed at improving the country's bridges, highways and public buildings, according to a government official, reports Reuters.

이탈리아, 교량 붕괴 참사 계기로 인프라에 대규모 투자한다 재원 조달 만만치 않아 로이터통신에 따르면 이탈리아는 다음 달에 교량, 고속도로, 공공건물 등의 안전 개선하기 위한 대대적인 인프라 건설계획을 수립할 것이라고 한다. 이번 주 제노아에 있는 모란디 교량의 붕괴는 적어도 42명의 목숨을 앗아갔고 정부는 고속도로를 유지할 책임이 있는 이탈리아 유료 도로 운영자인 오토스트래이드에 대한 조사에 착수하도록 했다.  이탈리아는 이미 유럽에서 두 번째로 많은 공적 부채를 안고 있고 세 곳의 기관으로부터 신용등급이 하락할 가능성에 직면해 있어 정부가 이 엄청난 투자 자금을 어떻게 댈 것인가에 대한 의문을 제기하고 있다. 황기철 콘페이퍼 에디터 큐레이터 Ki Cheol Hwang, conpaper editor, curator

Why it matters: The collapse of the Morandi Bridge in Genoa this week left at least 42 people dead and prompted the government to launch an investigation into Autostrade, the Italian toll road operator responsible for maintaining the motorway. Italy already has the second-highest public debt in Europe and faces a potential downgrade in its credit rating from three agencies, raising questions about how the government will finance the "enormous investment."
