NASA InSight Mars Landing Live Stream

NASA is scheduled to live stream the InSight robotic lander’s touchdown on Mars, marking the completion of the spacecraft’s seven-month journey to the red planet. The live coverage is scheduled to begin on November 26 at 2:00 p.m. EST, across all NASA TV video channels including YouTube, Facebook, JPL feed and Twitch.

NASA 탐사선 인사이트 화성 착륙 실황중계 27일 새벽 4시53분(한국시간) 화성 적도 부근 엘리시움 평원에 착륙 7년 만   미국항공우주국(NASA)의 화성 탐사선 인사이트(InSight)가 27일 새벽 4시53분 화성의 적도 부근 엘리시움 평원에 착륙한다. NASA가 화성 착륙선을 발사한 것은 2011년 발사된 큐리오시티 이후 7년 만이다. 인사이트는 지난 5월 미국 캘리포니아주 반덴버그 공군기지에서 아틀라스V에 실려 화성으로 향했다. 탐사선이 착륙할 엘리시움은 '낙원'이란 이름 그대로 주변에 장애물 하나 없는 평탄한 지역이다.  과거 화성에 착륙한 탐사선들이 토양에서 물과 같은 생명체의 흔적을 찾았다면 이번에 화성으로 향한 인사이트는 지질학과 물리학 연구에 집중한다. 가장 먼저 화성 착륙 후 로봇팔로 지진계를 탐사선 내려놓을 계획이다. 또 지하 5m 깊이로 들어가는 열 감지 센서도 설치한다. 착륙선에 설치한 라디오 안테나를 통해 5400만㎞ 이상 떨어진 지구와 교신을 하면서 착륙선의 위치 변화를 센티미터 단위로 알아낸다. 인사이트는 이를 통해 화성의 가장 안쪽에 있는 핵이 어떤 상태인지 알아내고 지각의 구조와 열수송 형태를 분석할 계획이다. 박근태 기자 kunta@donga.com 동아사이언스

If all goes to plan, the InSight should land at 2:54 p.m. EST. There will also be in-person viewing parties taking place across the US, such as at NYC’s Times Square, the American Museum of Natural History, the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum, Space Center Houston and LA’s California Science Center.
