South Korean nuclear power plants have been shown to be more efficient and affordable than those in other countries.

Data by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) show that what's called the Unplanned Capability Loss (UCL) factor of South Korean nuclear power plants stood at an average one percent between 2014 and 2016.


 
UCL is an index indicating loss in power generation due to unplanned factors.

 
The lower the figure, the higher the operational efficiency.
 


In South Korea the figure came to just one third of the global average, which stood at three-point-four percent during the same period.


 
France's index was five-point-seven percent and Canada four-point-six percent.
 
The U.S. at one-point-five percent and China, at one-point-four percent, also ranked on the lower end.


 
South Korea's nuclear power plant construction costs are also much lower than other countries.


 
Among OECD members, Korea's construction cost per unit kilowatt electric capacity was just over 2,000 dollars, compared to over 5,000 for France, 6,000 for the UK, and over 4,000 dollars in the U.S.




 
China ranged between 18-hundred to about 26-hundred dollars.
