Announcement of Hyperloop One Global Challenge Semifinalists Causes Worldwide Excitement :Hyperloop One is a United States company formed to explore Elon Musk’s Hyperloop concept.

The Hyperloop high speed transportation system uses electric propulsion to accelerate capsules through a tube in a low pressure environment. The autonomous capsules levitate slightly above the track and glide at very high speed over long distances. They are capable of reaching a top speed of 1,300 km/h.

In May 2016 Hyperloop One launched the Hyperloop One Global Challenge, a competition which invited teams anywhere on Earth to put forward a comprehensive commercial, transport, economic, and policy case for their cities, regions, or countries to be considered to host the first Hyperloop networks.

On 8 January 2017 Hyperloop One released the locations of the remaining semifinalist teams, carefully selected amongst 2,600 registrants from 100 different countries.

The thirty-five semifinalists represent seventeen countries, with eleven representing the US and five India:

Hyperloop One CEO Rob Lloyd stated: “These are all solutions that can make a real and immediate social and economic impact.”

The remaining teams will now have to showcase their proposals on three upcoming dates: 28 February 2017 in New Delhi (India), 6 April 2017 in Washington DC (USA) and 27 April 2017 in London (UK). Competition is fierce and finalists will be announced by May 2017.

Ultimately, three winners will be chosen by a panel of experts from around the world. Winners will work closely with the Hyperloop One engineering and business development teams to explore project development and financing.
