BREVARD COUNTY • VIERA, FLORIDA – The development of Viera, Florida began over 27 years ago with the unveiling of a vision to master-plan and build an entire community on the Duda family’s Cocoa Ranch.

Since 1989, The Viera Company, a wholly-owned subsidiary of A. Duda & Sons, Inc., has been the single master developer for the community of Viera, providing consistency and continuity during the planning and development of Viera.

The blueprints started with the creation of a roadway system that would connect to the existing roads at that time and would service the future residents and businesses in most efficient manner.

“Since the community’s inception, The Viera Company has invested over $105 million in the development and expansion of over 25 miles of County arterial and collector roadways both within and surrounding Viera,” said Todd J. Pokrywa, The Viera Company, Senior Vice President of Land Use Planning & Development.

“The Viera Boulevard Overpass, Pineda Interchange, Stadium Parkway and Lake Andrew Drive Extension have been some of the largest projects that the company has completed to date, totaling over $50 million of road project costs so far.”

Moving into 2017, The Viera Company recognizes the need for infrastructure improvements and additional points of access in and out of Viera as the community continues to grow.

Currently, the company is investing in many roadway projects, including:

• Installation of a new traffic signal at Stadium Parkway and Tavistock Drive to manage traffic flow from the surrounding neighborhoods. This improvement is part of the company’s recent $5 million widening of Stadium Parkway, from just north of Viera Boulevard to south of the I-95/Fiske interchange, and is slated to be complete during the first quarter of 2017.

• Over $12 million in funding is being provided to Brevard County by The Viera Company for their completion of the $18 million Barnes Boulevard Improvement Project.

• The $11 million Wickham Road Expansion Project, which involves six-laning between Murrell Road and Lake Andrew Drive, is wrapping up. Construction on this project began during the summer of 2014 and was initially estimated to take 2-2.5 years. Despite an unprecedented number of rain days, countless utility related delays, a night work schedule (to minimize traffic impacts to neighborhoods and businesses), a mid-project re-design of the on/off ramps for I-95 due to new FDOT mandates and the first hurricane to hit Brevard in over a decade (the last being Hurricane Jeanne on 11/26/04) the project is expected to be completed within 8-12 weeks.

“The Viera Company’s contractor for the Wickham Road Expansion Project is finishing curb, sidewalk and median construction which will be followed by the final paving as well as coordination with the County regarding placement and operation of light sensors for signal timing,” stated Pokrywa.

The Viera Company will also begin design for the widening of Viera Boulevard east of the new interchange towards US 1, which will commence construction following the completion of the interchange improvement project.
