Shanghai-Kunming railway nears completion

The last track on the Shanghai-Kunming railway was laid yesterday. The route will open at the end of the year.


On completion, it will take train passengers only 8 hours to travel from Shanghai to the southwestern city in Yunnan Province. The previous route took around 20 hours.


The total distance of the Shanghai-Kunming railroad is 2,266 kilometers, which is the longest east-west railroad and covers the most provinces among all the railroads in China. Trains are designed to run at 350 kilometers per hour on the route.
