Background / General description:
The Infrastructure and Natural Resources Department is recruiting an Investment Officer/Senior Investment Officer to further our business in the East Asia and the Pacific (EAP) region, most notably China, Korea and Mongolia. The position will be based in Beijing. 

The department is responsible for originating, executing and managing infrastructure investments in EAP. Infrastructure is one of IFC's key strategic priorities. IFC's priorities in the sector are: (i) increasing access to basic infrastructure services, with a particular focus on frontier countries and regions; (ii) supporting local companies, while improving transparency and corporate governance; (iii) catalyzing foreign direct investments, including mobilizing B loans and parallel loans; (iv) introducing and developing new financial products including through Public Private Partnerships, with a focus on products related to climate change; and (v) building long-term partnerships with strong regional players. In the power, transportation, and utilities sub-sectors, the majority of our clients are based in Emerging Markets, and IFC has resources and decision-making authority as close as possible to these clients.

The selected candidate will be expected to play multiple and varied roles including: project leader of multidisciplinary teams; transaction leader or team member for projects led by other transaction leaders and mentor for less seasoned professionals. The job will also involve portfolio responsibilities and regional travel will be required.

Note: If the selected candidate is a current Bank Group staff member with a Regular or Open-Ended appointment, s/he will retain his/her Regular or Open-Ended appointment. All others will be offered a 3 year term appointment.
Duties and Accountabilities:
• Develop a strong pipeline of good quality core infrastructure investment opportunities through anticipating market trends and employing sector/country knowledge;

• Evaluate, structure, negotiate, and close new transactions, portfolio restructurings, rescheduling, capital increases, equity sales, etc.;

• Develop innovative and appropriate financial structures for complex transactions;

• Lead negotiation/documentation teams; use strong negotiation skills to develop solutions and overcome impasses in straightforward and complex transactions;

• Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, global and regional private businesses, banking and multilateral partners and government officials to further develop the sector and to develop specific investment 

opportunities;

• Lead and manage project teams, mentor and develop junior staff;

• Collaborate in developing sector and/or regional strategies and support related promotion work, including targeting potential investments and policy advisory work.
Selection Criteria:
• An MBA or equivalent professional qualification with a minimum 8 years relevant work experience (at least 5 years working in the infrastructure sector), experience working in EAP (especially China) would be an advantage;

• Strong business development and client relationship skills, track record and ability to focus on clients needs effectively and identify potential business partners;

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English, candidates with a high degree of conversational Chinese preferred;

• Deliver high quality work within deadlines to meet team objectives;

• Good “deal sense” based on demonstrated strong analytical skills and sound business judgment;

• Ability to develop innovative solutions and challenges the status quo in order to build the business;

• Excellent people management skills and openness to feedback; new ideas and ability to guide staff to solutions to problems;

• Ability to collaborate closely with other parts of the World Bank Group, other MFIs and financing institutions.
