심각한 대기오염 속에서 살아가는 사람들. 혼탁한 공기의 주범 중 하나는 교통수단으로 인한 매연이다. 그러나 여기 공기를 정화하는 기차가 있다고 한다. Vittori Lab's과 디자이너들은 NASA의 특허기술을 사용해 ‘녹지가 가득한 Air Train’을 설계했다. 이 Air Train에 탄 사람들은 기차 안에서 신선한 공기를 마실 수 있다. 기차의 천장 모서리에는 식물이 있다. 식물은 투명한 막으로 보호하는데, 기차 내부나 외부어디에서든 식물을 바라볼 수 있다. 바로 이 식물이 이산화탄소를 흡수하고 산소를 내뿜어 차내 공기를 정화한다. 탄소 스펀지에 심겨진 식물은 공기정화에 있어서 일반 식물보다 더 효율적으로 작용한다. 식물을 보호하는 투명한 막은 식물에게 햇빛을 제공하고, 내부에 부착된 빗물이용시설은 식물에게 물을 공급한다. 이 투명한 막 덕분에 Air Train을 이용하는 승객들에게 시각적으로도 좋은 환경을 제공한다. 승객들은 좋은 공기를 마심과 동시에 식물을 바라보며 마치 뒷마당에 온 것처럼 아늑함을 느낄 수 있다.     글 _ 전지은 기자 · 라펜트 |
