A few technology companies have been trying to wedge augmented reality into construction for a few years now, boasting benefits of overlaying BIM models onto the real life site you’re working on, as well as interactive collaboration with remote workers. One of those companies that we thought was going to make a pretty big impact is apparently closing its doors in the near future.

다크리(DAQRI)의 TechCrunch에 따르면 DAQRI Smart Helmet의 이 회사는 이미 대부분의 직원을 해고하고 모든 자산을 매각하고 있다. 스마트 헬멧은 대화식 헤드업 디스플레이와 그 주변에 설치된 카메라와 센서로 매우 미래적인 모습을 선보였다. DAQRI는 나중에 Topcon Positioning Group과 협력하여 헬멧을 건설 업계에 더 유용하게 만들었다. 스마트헬멧보다 무게가 2파운드 이상 적은 스마트 안경 형태로 2017년 출시됐다. 동사는 최근 몇 년 동안 마이크로소프트와 그들의 홀론즈 같은 거대 기술 업체들로부터 치열한 경쟁에 직면해 왔지만, 건설현장으로의 AR 도입은 많은 사람들이 예상했던 것보다 훨씬 더 느린 것으로 보인다. According to TechCrunch, DAQRI, the company behind the DAQRI Smart Helmet has already laid off most of its employees and is selling off all of its assets.

The Smart Helmet featured a very futuristic look with an interactive head-up display and several cameras and sensors installed around it. DAQRI later partnered with Topcon Positioning Group to make the helmet more useful for the construction industry. A smaller, lighter version of the technology was released in 2017 in the form of smart glasses, which weighed over 2 pounds less than the Smart Helmet.
The company has faced stiff competition from tech giants like Microsoft and their Hololens in recent years, but it also seems that AR adoption overall was slower than many expected. TechCrunch reported that several other AR startup companies have also closed down recently.
DAQRI was 10 years old. RIP DAQRI.
