Super high-definition images of the Titanic shipwreck reveal a 'partial collapse' of the iconic ship's hull 13,000 feet below the Atlantic Ocean

The Titanic was the biggest cruise-liner in the world when it set off in 1912 and was deemed unsinkable

Tragically, it hit an iceberg at 11:40 p.m. on 14 April 1912 and plunged Atlantic Ocean's bed on maiden voyage

Demise of the ship captured worldwide headlines and was considered the world's biggest maritime disaster

First expedition to the shipwreck in 14 years has taken 4K images of the Titanic 13,00ft beneath the surface

It took decades for divers to find wreckage after the tragedy; it was found in 1985 two pieces on the seafloor

Explorers making the first manned voyage to the Titanic wreckage in 14 years said they have uncovered a partial collapse of the ship's hull.

Around 13,000ft (4,000m) beneath the surface of the Atlantic Ocean, salt corrosion and metal-eating bacteria have worn away parts of the liner's structure.

The team of divers found that the hull near the officers' quarters on the starboard side of the ship has started to collapse, taking with it the vessel's luxurious stateroom accommodation, according to exploration company Caladan Oceanic.

2019: Natural processes have caused parts of the hull to start to collapse and have been captured in new images (pictured). They will be published alongside a documentary, which is being made by film company Atlantic Productions

1997: Underwater footage that was used in the start of the James Cameron film (pictured) showed a glimpse at some of the deterioration that was already well underway in the late 1990s

1985: The new 4K footage will make it possible to view the wreckage using interactive augmented reality and virtual reality technology. It's a vast improvement from past efforts. Much of the wreckage was barely visible in earlier footage, including the first video captured in 1985 after its discovery (shown)
