U.S. Vice President Mike Pence and other top U.S. officials recently said that Washington will soon unveil its “toughest sanctions ever" on North Korea.

A naval blockade, which is considered the strongest sanction excluding military action, is likely to strike a severe blow to North Korea which heavily depends on ships for the transportation of goods.

As the U.S. government is reportedly determined to block illicit ship-to-ship transfers between North Korean ships and foreign vessels on the high seas, its new sanctions are likely to target North Korean ships as well as foreign vessels from China and Taiwan doing business with the North.
