Saudis open 400MW wind call

Request for qualifcation launched for project at Dumat Al Jandal

Saudi Arabia has issued a request for qualification (RFQ) to build a 400MW wind farm at Dumat Al Jandal in the Al Jouf region of the country.

The request was issued by the renewable energy project development office of Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources

Local, regional and international developers, as well as consortiums are invited to bid for the project.

The RFQ is open until 10 August, after which qualified companies will proceed to the request for proposals (RFP) stage as either ‘managing members’, ‘technical members’ or both.

The RFP stage will start on 29 August and close in January 2018.

Saudi Arabia said the latest announcement builds on a tender for the 300MW Sakaka solar project, launched in April.

The winning bid for the solar project will be revealed in November.

The Dumat Al Jandal wind farm and Sakaka PV project will be backed by 20 and 25-year power purchase agreements respectively, the country said.

Saudi Arabia Minister of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources Khalid Al-Falih said: “The release of Dumat Al Jandal’s wind project RFQ, and upcoming RFP next month, ensures that we remain on course to tender 700MW in round one this year.

“It establishes a foundation that supports our success towards our 2020 and 2023 interim targets.”
