Computing and technology giant Apple has announced plans to invest US$1 billion in its operations in the US state of Nevada, with the expansion of its huge data centre in Reno.
Construction work at the facility will, according to Apple, support an additional 300 jobs, with 100 additional Apple employees to work at the centre once it is completed.
The Apple facility is located in the Reno Technology Center, close to the gigafactory owned by electric car manufacturer Tesla.
Nevada state governor Brian Sandoval said Apple’s decision to increase its local investment was “the first major economic development success in northern Nevada and helped place this region on the technology and innovation map.”
Apple spokesman John Rosenstock said, “We’re excited to be increasing our contributions to the local economy with an additional $1 billion investment to expand our data centre and supporting facilities.”
