PETALING JAYA: Police have made their first arrest – a taxi driver – in their investigations into the death of Kim Jong Nam, the half-brother of North Korean leader Kim Jong Un.
A senior officer at the federal police headquarters in Bukit Aman told Oriental Daily that the taxi driver was nabbed in Kuala Lumpur late last night.killer
Closed-circuit television camera footage at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (klia2) showed that the taxi had picked up two fair-skinned Asian women – the same two police believe can shed light on Jong Nam’s sudden death.
The officer told Oriental daily that Jong Nam was at the airport lobby preparing to enter the departure hall for his flight to Macau when two women approached him.
“One of them sprayed a poisonous liquid on his face while the other held a cloth over his mouth for about 10 seconds. After that, they left,” Oriental Daily quoted the source as saying.
The two women then left the airport lobby and immediately got into a waiting taxi.
Police also discovered that the two women were actually Vietnamese and according to the daily, police, including those from the Special Branch, are now looking for the two.
“We believe the two were paid to carry out this mission. We have already identified the poisonous liquid that they used, which is far more lethal than cyanide.”
Police, however, refused to reveal the name of the poison, but hinted that it had also been used in other assassinations.
